Yes, it's amazingly useful. Play for a while and you'll see how important hearing your enemies is. I'd take silence for killing marines over cloaking any day. Welcome to the forums!
Silence is absolutly godly. Of course I waste it when ever I have it, but I'm no contest for a good silence skulk, those things easily have a 90% kill ratio on single marine encounters. A good marine will play at least 50% by sound, and silence totally screws that over.

Playing DooM 3 with no sound is like having a silenced alien chase you as a marine.
A total pain in the a**. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Throw in cloak and be pwnt from behind...

Even when the Marines do have Motion Tracking, Silence is incredible. Here's the thing: Motion Tracking's countering of Silence is in turn countered by a rare but incredibly useful player trait - patience. If you're waiting to ambush your prey, use the advantage you get over them: hearing. Wait for them to go past, and attack them from the rear. If you do it correctly, you'll probably drop one before they figure out what's going on.
i use it depending on how the game is going, im more of a cel skulk, but if rines are good it take silence and ambush, but if the rines arent that hot id take cel and get in the thick of it, when theres 3 or 4 rines together and your right are there feet jumping and dodging with cel your really hard to hit and they end up shooting each other more than you

hehe, when you are running behind a marine for any length of time and he never notices you until you chomp on him... yea, its useful. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
For a while I ignored silence. I'm starting to use it a bit more, especially I'll scan MS for an obs, if its upgrading and they have a keypoint they'r gaurding I'll go slience (due to odds are its researching phase tech) with no problem and get plenty of kills due to I'm not slowed down by worrying about a marine listening to me. It really is usefull if defending a hive also, marines concentrate on the hive unless they hear a sound... so with them firing they dont hear a skulk comming and bitting thier **** from behind. :D

even with mt it's handy from rushing behind.

...I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're aware that this thread pertains specifically to Classic.
Really nice upgrade Silence is.
As for Classic NS, it's also a nice upgrade too, provide the comm hasn't researched MT. Really great moral debililator XD
