<div class="IPBDescription">no flame wars... all looooove</div> well i just got back from server hopping and playing some ns b5. i was so desperate to play however. i'm home from college for the weekend right now, and my desktop pc is obivously back in my dorm. basically, i put steam and ns on my laptop, just to go play.

horrible laptop keyboard skills aside, i very much liked what i saw. altho, the jetpack sounds like a vacuum cleaner and a mixer all in one haha... and the lmg is a peashooter <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> but co is much more balanced now in my opinion. altho i must go and play MUCH more when i get back to really get my opinions down straight.

    The spawn waves in CO are too far apart - it is an improvement, but you still can spend a lot of time in the queue. Other than that, B5 is teh w1n!

    Beta 5 installs to an "ns" directory instead of the "nsp" we've been using before. Make sure you use proper shortcuts.

    Uh oh... this line sounds bad: Aliens always respawn as skulk, even if they were previously a higher lifeform.

    Is that in CO games? please don't do that in CO games!

    The first thing I noticed was the vent in veil hasnt been fixed <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    The only changes that seem worthwhile are the slightly improved jp power, the ammo clips, and the smoother skulk movement. The rest of this release (that we've been waiting for for 4 months) seems to be cosmetic or pointless.

    I have already replaced most the sounds and sprites with older ones (and deleted the ridiculous jetpack sound). I would probably replace certain models too, if consistency didnt catch them <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Overall, I'm rather disappointed.

    Actually that's very handy. Case in point:

    I'm skulking around co_core and our hive is at 40% health. I had one point that I was saving for xeno, but instead went gorge. Once the hive was healed I played untill I died - but during that time I got another level. So when I respawned I was able to get xeno, and heal the hive in the process.

    It's just beta4a without some bugs you hardly ever noticed, a new map, and a changed map or two. Meh.

    I know it's just a bugfix patch mainly, but still after all that waiting, i was hoping for something that would make me play NS again...Alas, i'll wait for beta6.

    Alright, here we go:

    - Welcome jet vacuum, and hmg lmg. I just got used to the new b4 lmg sounds, and now I've got the lmg with the hmg sounds :/
    - NS screws with your sensivity (Low with sg/hmg, medium with LMG, high as skulk, low as fade). I even had to up my sensivity that I just increased two days ago, and that had been almost too fast back then. Now it's slow as hell
    - No more evolving to gorge in vent: You need more room to gestate. Can't be bypassed by jumping either
    - co_sava: The map itself is really nice, but the hiveroom is awful, you get stuck everywhere as as jetpacker. Oh and once you land on the hive you'll be stuck on the hive also <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Plus it's way too marine friendly on the other parts of the map
    - mp_blockscripts is a joke: Can't even use my console anymore (console 1.0; toggle)
    - Reloading of the shotgun can't be stopped by simply shooting, you have to switch weapons first. And the new model is kind of weird

    I do like the wavespawn and the new evoling system though, didn't have enough time to find more positive changes ;D

    yeah i have all that, i copied all my configs over and its still running a lot worse then before.

    same here, im on a ati radeon 9200 se, it runs at 70fps but it has wierd jerks/hiccups or something, wasnt there before......

    - The wave spawn is soooooooooooooo long.
    - co_sava is totally marine biased. I did not see a single vent there. Nothing but huge rooms and long corridors. Sure, it could be good for fades and lerks to fly around in, but aliens will never get to that point.
    - Marines can get to engine hive in ns_bast in about 20 seconds. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    - JP sounds so weak.
    - Shotgun is soooooooo wierd now. Just, wierd. heh.
    - co_ spawning as skulks has an upside of going gorge, but huge downside of being ridiculously easily spawn camped.
    - Gorge now rox my sox.
    - Holy crap. Bile bomb is HUGE!
    - Welder is AWESOME. I've already gotten a welder kill ^_^

    it seems like they were working on this beta for quite awhile, but some of the changes didn't happen, listed or otherwise. IE chat text still gets in the way, respawn blows on big servers blah blah whine whine. my point is, if you're going to take the time, then

    JPs are about as useful as they were in 1.04. They're very manueverable, very fast, and as an added bonus they can't even be stomped. Expect JP rushes to become the thing to do on marines once again. Just got out of a game where marines managed to come back from 3 hives and almost no res to a win, because of eternal jetpack rushes all over the map. OC'ed hives would simply get sieged, with a siege base defended by JPers.

    Ah, the man himself, Flayra. I plan on sending you money...

    The wave respawn is bittersweet to me. I mean, if you are under serious attack, there is no time to spawn to gorge, then fade, and then Onos when under heavy HMG fire. However, if your entire team is Fade, Lerk, or Onos, its a good chance for them to go to Gorge under the circumstances.

    FIRST:

    Combat is the most unbalanced thing I've ever, ever, ever, ever, ever played. I won (i kept track) 4 games as aliens, and 27 as marines. Most of these were 2-4 minutes long, too.

    But, combat is also very very fun!

    Onos in combat is awesome. Once the aliens have onos (that's how we won the games in CO as alien) the marines have little chance, especially with the better redemption and carapace, and with celerity and regen. Also have stomp and your onos never dies.

    I think it's a lot more fun, but a lot more unbalanced.

    Didn't get a chance to play NS mode yet, the servers I was on were testing CO and stuff.

    JETPACKS: HOLY. ****. GET RID OF THE NEW JP SOUND NOW.

    LMG: Meh, liked the other sound better, but this one's ok.

    Shotgun: The most overpowered thing in the game. No idea what changed for this, but shotguns are the epitome of overpowered.

    Skulk: Love the whole "less knockback" thing. It's a lot easier to get kills once you reach the marine.



    Spawning as skulk all the time (in co): Has good and bad points.

    Good: You can rechoose your lifeform, going gorge to heal, or fade to attack, etc.

    Bad: With longer gestation times, you have no chance of holding the rines off.


    I have to test some more.

    Overall: GOOD JOB

    um, it was done that way cause thats the center of the pellets, did you read the change log?


    im thinkin that the new evolution thing in co is gonna nerf the aliens, but i did just see a game where the marines got their **** kicked

    uh, nothing was changed except an aminmation, and the crosshairs were fixed cause they werent aligned properly

    There are some REALLY big exploits with them. Theres a thread on pg 1 or 2 with it, just to let ya all know.

    Just got back from random server jumping as well as playing a quick privite match with my friends (it was a Co map so we could test it's changes).

    From what I have seen in the co maps: Excelent, CO is now on the right path. Though I do agree with an eariler statement that the new co map is marine bais (which is good for training and practicing on bots).

    As for Classic mode, well, I already miss the rotating door in bast (I LOVED THAT DOOR. I swear in pub servers one could kill more onos by using that door on them then by using a jps and a hmg, I'll miss that <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ). It might just be me, but that new JPs sound, I do love it, but it gives away your postion because it's so easy to identify.

    Overall: I like the new update, but was looking forward to a bit more (like some changes on ns_veil). Oh well I can still wait while I play 3.0beta5

    Oh and for all of you that like 3.0beta4 over the new update alot of people still have their servers on 3.0beta4 and I am guessing they will be until they see alot of people enjoying the new beta.

    Beta 5...

    Okay, so first off, in my trial runs on it, I was getting constant sticky-lag, kinda like a rubber band thing for the entire server....dunno if thats the patch, or a server issue yet. Looking into it.

    The new jetpack flight is very nice, and I don't mind the new sound.

    Bring back the 3.04 LMG sound...it was awesome.

    Shotgun...it like...shoots straight now. I was the master of the off-balance shotgun, and I want it back <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Aside from that...I find the animation kind of distracting, and takes up more screen space, so its harder to plan multiple shots. Overall...no complaints, I can adapt.

    Welder - VERY nice work guys, love the features and all.

    Regen - I thought it was going to overflow into armor when health was maxed and there was additional regeneration points left?

    ns_eclipse - what happened? I was looking forward to the patch

    co_ulysses - very nice additions, and thanks for that ramp fix ><

    co_sevu or whatever it is...marine biased...needs an alien side makeover.

    ns_bast - due to the revolving door no longer in place, marines can reach engine hive far too quickly

    motion tracking fixes are very much appreciated.

    whats with bile bomb range? Its pretty crazy...didn't see it in the patchlog. could have just missed it though.

    Onos armor is very nice...much more balanced (with carapace).

    Overall...I think theres some critical things missing, and the new LMG sound certainly has to go away. Judging from the fact its a complete install, I'm assuming that this is still going to be the "official" 3.0 release? If it is...I would REALLY appreciate a 3.05a anyway. But no worries. good work team, keep it up.

    Yeah what the heck is up with that?

    It almost feels like varying levels of mouse acceleration if not flat out different sensitivities.
