Big Changes At Nsarmslab!

Back to the Basics...
Hey Natural-Selection community! This purpose of this post is to inform you of some major changes at NSArmslab. NSA (NSArmslab) as you may know is approaching its one year anniversary. While it has been a very interesting year, NSA feels that it could have been far better. Our mission has been threefold: to provide custom content to the Natural-Selection; to help the community as a whole to grow; to provide a fun gaming experience at our servers. While we feel we have done decently well at the first goal and had a good start on the second and third, the path to completing those goals as we wished had became foggy and convoluted. Frankly, we feel we have failed. That is why we are here today; to explain ourselves and what we are doing to fix our issues. We have spent a lot of time thinking and reviewing our attitudes and actions, and have clearly seen our faults and the way to fix them. This is what we call the “Back to the Basics” plan. The following is a quick list of MAJOR changes within NSArmslab with short explanations. For further specifics and information please visit www.nsarmslab.com/forums

1) The Rules - The rules on our forums and servers have been radically adjusted. We realized that they were unjust and unfair. The punishments were too extreme and abusive. You can find our new set of rules at http://www.nsarmslab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1991

2) Admin Attitude - The attitude and actions of our admins and how they treat players has been totally reversed. Our previous attitude was far too negative and disrespectful. Our admins will now strive to treat everyone fairly and with respect, regardless of the people involved, what clan they are in, or how good a player they are.

3) Amnesty - All previously banned players are now unbanned. The ban list has been wiped. We realized many people were banned unfairly and never given a proper chance to prove their innocence. We have forgotten any old grudges against clans and players. As far as we are concerned now, these people never did anything wrong.

4) “Clan Bans” - No longer will an entire clan or organization be held responsible for the actions of its members on our servers. We now realize that everyone acts on their own person, and only they are responsible for what they have done.

5) Server Changes – We have found and corrected many problems with the software of our game servers. We have also within the last few days purchased a far better server. There should be no more lag, “hangs,” or long spikes. Because of the new recently upgraded box that our servers are running on, we are increasing the slots of the Classic server from 21 to 24, and the Combat from 19 to 32. The combat server has been TOTALLY redone and now plays completely differently then it used to (it closely resembles official combat).

6) Veteran Benefits – NSA feels that it has unfairly and disrespectfully treated many top NS competitive clans. NSA has only recently realized how much the NS competitive community has contributed to the welfare of the entire Natural-Selection community as a whole (such as nslearn). So as an effort to reward those who help NS grow (our objective as well), we are providing the following “veteran benefits” that apply to active, large competitive clans:
- Free reserved slot on our servers to a “clan liaison” to NSA.
- Five free reserved slots monthly to the top competitive players on our server.
- “Monthly Spotlight” for one NS competitive clan who will receive a “spotlight” position on our website for all visitors to see that acknowledges the achievements of this clan.
- Sponsored TeamSpeak servers to top NS competitive clans.
- Sponsored professional web hosting to up to 10 competitive clans (one gigabyte of space and ten gigabytes of bandwidth).
- Server admins are being sought. The main requirement is that you fully understand Natural-Selection and play extremely frequently. If you are a member of a competitive veteran clan and are of good character, contact us along with your clan leader. If you can spend enough time on our servers, you may very likely get server admin.

Hopefully, we can work together to mend the divide that has grown between much of the NS community and ourselves. Also, we hope that this plan will help us fulfill our mission to help the NS community far better in the time to come. If you have any questions or your clan would like to apply for some of these benefits, contact Ryan at ryan@nsarmslab.com or Gary at gary@nsarmslab.com

Thank you for your time,

NSArmslab.com Staff and Administrators

No f4ing out of the game? I suppose you want to avoid wasting server slots, but if my team is being spawn camped, I generally want the game to end faster.

Yeah, if spawn camping gets to be a problem, that rule will probably change.

If a team is being spawncamped and you F4, its you being stupid. If they are able to do it over 2 minutes, the server admins should be in there and kicking appropriately. Hopefully this server is different, though I'm not even gonna stick around to see(my fav server already houses all of my needs).

Nice. Any tiny effort that gives people an incentive for putting a clan together and joining a league helps with the stagnating competitive scene. Thanks.

    2) THANK GOD that you have changed your admin's attitude. I was banned for requesting medpacks and ammo, and would refuse to unban me because he thought that I was annoying for requesting them so oftern (going 21-2 might require a few meds and ammo).

    3) I'll be happy to play on your server again.

    4) The benefits are crazy, I just think it's great enough that you've not kicking or banning people JUST because they are veterans (unlike Halls of Armaggedon who kicks EVERY veteran who joins). I'm very happy that you even provide benefits to veterans who play often and can contribute to the server as an admin.

Finally a server that actually wants veterans to play at and contribute.

    Hello [NSA]Ryan.

I heard the news about your server being made to be a far more friendly environment, and immediately decided to give it a try. In order to follow the rules, I disabled F4 and decided to play my very best.

I saved up and built the second hive. While the marines set up their siege base on the side of Computer Core, the fade got telefragged on the phase gate and the marines walked all over the almost-built second hive before MCs could go up. Barely hanging on to enough RFK to go lerk, I did, since the marine hadn't bothered getting heavy armor at any point. Maybe we could have taken back CC, but we didnt, they moved on the last hive, pushing over skulks and OCs as most games like this go. For some reason, because I was the last one alive and either didn't suicide or went for a vent, a member of my team began continually verbally harrassing me as a waste of res and a **** and so on and so forth, after which I was kicked.

If you would like, we can talk about this friendlier, better server. May we?

I'm just asking because I was sort of kicked and I'm wondering if I shouldn't just play something else instead. Source has problems, but at least I don't have to deal with this sort of grief.

Plz respond before next bowl~10 minutes.

some of the big problems with vets is that they dont play as a team on the server, they go off and rambo and then expect the coms to shower them with meds and ammo and it aint happening, when I com I tell people if you go out alon you die alone, unless they ninja for a phase gate near a hive or something, but NOONE needs meds n crap in the begining of the game.

i try to encourage no tfs, and no upgrades to win a game, just simple teamwork but everyone has there own way of playing com.

if you see me com dont ask for anything just get me res so i can rush teh upgr4d3s.

    GG to all.

That's your style of playing, and that doesn't mean it's the only way to play. Supporting a marine that's mowing down skulks left and right with an occasional med and some ammo keeps the aliens busy and the other marines accomplishing something else. Use your players that do this effectively, otherwise you're simply not utilizing a resource that's at your disposal as commander. A 75 hp marine is simply a liability and not an asset, give that marine a medpack and suddenly they become an asset again.

Edit: Wonderful that the NSA servers are becoming more supportive of veterans and clans in general. If other communities did this, the NS community would definitely become better overall. I hope that it's not just all good words and no real change in policy, I'll go see for myself later.

Also it'd be real nice if the files on your site had full and detailed readmes.

I've tried several times to get a proper readme in the predatorless "AvP pack", and at last check it only mentioned my stuff. Funny, I recall sending off a rather detailed readme covering about 80 percent of the pack's content, but the person I was in correspondance with didn't reply.

And, as I recall, wasn't there a problem with the non-removal of files which the creators had asked you to remove?

Has this sort of thing been fixed perchance?

It's hard to do an about-face, but good for you. People think you're being wishy-washy, but it often means you're just continuing to have an open mind and willing to try new approaches.

I'll try to swing by there some time this weekend after my part of the beta 5 madness ends.
