Interesting Idea...

<div class="IPBDescription">just wondering....</div> Starcraft, Warcraft, ect are all fun games.... i was wondering... randomly if anyone had ever tried this...

Have marines on thier team not do anything until instructed... defend themselves... but nothing else... no marines going to res or building unless told to...

Like in Starcraft, Warcraft, ect...... u could have "dumb" marines who wouldnt do jack **** unless told to....

Sure it would be boring to the marines.... but might be fun to try on a server... get a clan to play where they wouldnt do ANYTHING unless told to... no suggestions, no unapproved moving, no whining, no nothing...

What i find happening in ns a lot... is ppl do what they want.. and its so hard to comm a team who is at maint 1 second, then halfway to keyhole before u let them know u want to make a base there, then they have to go back, regroup, ect...

The game would be MUCH SLOWER, MUCH MORE ORGANIZED....

Im not suggesting playing like this regularly, i just want to see if it would remove the chaos factor from ns, and if it would be any fun or effective even if the commander basically held you up with stilts...

Get a good group of ppl who would do only waht the commander says when he says it... n try it out.... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Has anyone yet??

And then you lose! Marines being dynamic human beings will ALWAYS be better than them not doing anything until told. Always.

    Yeah.

Bad marines rush the hives, while the good marines get the res nodes. Those marines are winning the game, and your not telling them where to go and stuff, they just know. As well, it would be a hassel for the commander.

I agree this would be a no go. Why?

At first I thought you were suggesting making AI marines that only go where told, but then you said they were actual players.

    Besides, either one isn't good...

I suggest asking a mod or something to lock this before the flames start burning hard.

Well, it could be fun to try. I'm sure that the marines would lose, but still. Perhaps have the aliens select someone who plays the hive mind, and aliens follow his orders, or otherwise stay at the hives ?

It could at least be something different than the usual gameplay, and exploring new options can't hurt anyone. If you don't like this idea, just don't try it.

    Thats all im saying...

In starcraft people can multitask out the wazoo.... seriously commanding like 200 units with ease.. researching vastly more complex tech trees nad making much more units.... all REAL FAST

Take out the "intelligent" marine factor...

And bam.. ppl are where u left them, still alive, everyone does what YOU want, structures get built asap, all bases are defended, reinfrocements can easily be waypointed.... a real multitasking comm can come into effect....

Sure ud probably lose..... but dont diss it im not even looking for a fun game... jsut a more strategic one... sans CHAOS FACTOR

Well, the aliens would need to play along similar lines, with a 'commander' giving individual aliens waypoints. Until that is possible, this would be quite unfeasible.

I really only see this working agains't a team of alien bots, but if you host a server I'll play the part of a mindless drone for an hour or so.

    1) commander interface is not nearly as good as most other RTS games
    2) in other RTS games, the units just shoot at each other until one or the other dies. in this game there are tactics, dodging, aim....you can't "direct" your marines to dodge, they have to do it themselves.

The guy above me has a point. Plus, the comm has to be 1337 with RTS's to pull it off. I doubt there are many people out there who are good enough to command a team to do his every beck and call on a whim, so the rines would be doomed :-/

what if the marines that rush the hive overpower the aliens and take down the hive? then who's winning the game? I just saying marines need to play a variety of roles to win the game, not just getting nodes or building or any one thing

and human thinking and creativity is what allways previals, like in star trek with the borg, or in independence day, or any movie with a superior alien race that SHOULD waste mankind with their advanced weapons and stuff yet man survives and finds the fatel weakness and exploits it... so whats the moral of the story? exploit everything you can!!!! jk... marines don't do that... it doesn't make for fun games

    It would be a massacre, but hilarious to try <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
