A Thank You

<div class="IPBDescription">to the guides</div> I would like to thank the ns guides for what they are doing and Wither in particular for helping me last night while commanding. I haven't been able to find a good source of help and I was getting ready to delete my nsp folder but I feel I have a better grasp on things now, and it was a good feeling to win my first game of commanding even though I had no idea what to do apart from the things I've seen others do.

Thanks a lot for helping me through that :-)

    I can't wait to be a NSGuide.

Though I do have a complaint. I was on a server yesterday with not one, but TWO NSGuides. They didn't even speak or say a word when I asked them how to get voice_loopback 1 to work.

Other people were also asking them questions, but they didn't answer or speak at all.

I don't remember their exact names, but one of them was like "Burgeon" or somthing. THe other one was some fancy-pants clan/1337 type of name "|-|@']['3R1C3B0i! or somthing.

How do you know they were NS GUIDES? By the icon? A server can give that icon to whoever the admin sees fit.

    Sadly, this is true.

jammno, I don't recognize the names you posted as any guides, so they were most likely server regulars on a server that uses the plugin to assign icons.

In B5 the Guides will have a new icon, and lets hope server ops will work with us to *not* confuse new players. Seeing as B5 also has the custom icon support, I'm confident that it'll improve.

BTW, voice_loopback 1 simply works so that you can hear yourself talk when you use the mic. Type voice_loopback 1 in console and it will be on. voice_loopback 0 to turn it off. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I made a post in tech support about the voice_loopback 1 not working. Basically if I put it in the console or the config it isn't working. But it works for all other HL mods. I need it to work so I know when I'm breaking up due to low FPS issues (Which people complain about when I comm how my voice breaks up. Usually in low FPS situations, but not always [Alt-Tab does this sometimes.] And I'd like to be aware when they can't hear me, or if I need to speak up more.)

I hope the developers can rid that plug-in entirely from NS. People have started making and uploading their own icons. Like this morning I saw some X-Clan with a big oversized white X icon.

Not sure how to fix that, I hope the tech support thread will help.

Also, NS has a built in custom icon function. Server ops can upload and assign custom icons, but I agree that they shouldn't be able to assign official icons, they're special, in my opinion anyway.

Yeah i don't like that server mod either, there's also a new mod which beings up auth info on people or w/e. Basicly you can tell if someone is a vet/pt/contsie, and take action on it. Someone in my ex-clan owned a server which banned all vets...

And as for guides, good idea, but i can't see it working sadly. New players simply aren't interested in pressing tab seeing a purple man and asking "Hey you must be a guide because i've read the forums, what's the answer to "X" question" and if they have got that far they'll be a 1 in a million newbie.

Most people just saw NS in the browse games list, thought "OH WOWZ0R CS WITH ALIENS!!1!!!" Download it, play for an hour, and quit because they can't work out how to bunnyhop or work out why every marine is killing them.

It wasn't on the Monkey Den was it?

Anyways I had a talk with a PT and he said that it had been taken out and possably will be replaced with a function to add your custom icons. It is actualy possable to get cutom icon atm but it requires a moded version of amx.

I use the custom icons on my server for admins and regulars (normaly the green admin icon and the grey admin icon)

In beta 5, Voogru is currently coding a way to have more then one custom icon that the server admin has designed himself.
Get ready to see wierd and wonderful icons in beta 5 along with mp_blockscripts 1.

I'll miss my 3+ jump script. Hopefully it will be put into the game so I won't need it anymore.
