How To Make Your Mates Weld You?

ReBootReBoot Join Date: 2004-05-26 Member: 28931Members
<div class="IPBDescription">Died as HA. Many times.</div> That is so damn stupid. 4 HA dudes near a hive. 1st problem: THERE IS ONE SKULK AND ONE GORGE IN THE HIVE ROOM AND NO ONE THINKS ABOUT ENTERING THE HIVE ROOM (but that is not the problem).
I entered the hive room for some seconds to make the sieges shoot. They shot. Hive was gone. I retreat. Almost dead. Ok, some medpacks and I'm fine. But my armor not. So I go into my mates' group and say "Dudes, someone weld me, plz". No reaction.
Once again. This time with flashlight blinking. No reaction. I take out my welder and begin to weld my mates. No reaction. Well, commander put a TF in the hive room. I wanted to enter (no else did) and build it. Then, I died from one skulk.

Now the question: how to make idiots clear that one needs a welding?

    I usually say "Weld me.." in teamsay and pick up my own welder(as you did), most people on public understand that they should weld back..

    Those who doesnt probably dont know what the Welder is used for(you could explain to them but somehow it seems to me that most people on public never read what other people write).

    manual flashlight blinking or the one-button-push spam kind?

    flashlight, jumping up and down, or this <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44914&view=findpost&p=1203875' target='_blank'>thread</a>

    I prefer the thread [weld me sprite]

    if you think it's a good idea, then say so in that thread!

    Would be great if we have weld me icon...

    For now... get infront of a mate facing him; use welder on him and spam flash light... If you have voice use it... If not bind a key to tsay "weld me"... If he tries to get pass you; strafe and block him... If he ignores you he is either so annoyed or total noob... Try someone else...

    although a bit annoying; It mostly works... I dont recommend doing this (at least the blocking part) if he is an admin... ^_^

    Maybe your teammates didn't have a welder?

    To make it more clear....make like you're welding them, then drop the welder and yell "Pick up my welder and weld me!"

    That usually works.
  • ReBootReBoot Join Date: 2004-05-26 Member: 28931Members
    In this situation, they did have.
    Well, I'll try to drop this thing.

    hahahaha an HA train with one person with the welder?

    usually welding someone (even though they already have full armor) makes them realize to weld u back. when that fails i say "weld me"..then jump around...then flashlight..if not then i say "weld me" in another tone of voice unsuitable to be displayed in these forums.

    if u find another person that doesn't have HA u can sometimes drop him the welder and he'll weld u almost all the time..but just do it in deperate situations as most likely u'll lose the welder that way.

    otherwise, i think a "please weld me" radio command would be a nice addition.

    bind your flashlight to a key that repeats: Like pagedown or pageup. Holding it down makes the flashlight blink REALLY quickly, and is sure to get your attention.
  • bonkeykong1bonkeykong1 Join Date: 2004-07-22 Member: 30048Members
    make a bind that does it all in one button:

    blinks the flash light
    asks in teamsay
    plays a weld me recording (you know that program to play sounds...)
    jumps up and down / spins around
    change your name to WELD ME! for a second

    or to get your teams attention recycle the whole base; now whos the boss?

    Sad as it is, pretty much everyone who uses voice communication is either too dumb to read the chat, or just chooses to ignore it. So i like many others get screwed and die because people wont bother to see if you need to be welded.

    Before you say "omg nube get a microphone!!111" I have a microphone, and it works with everything BUT HL. I've tried everything to fix it, looked for months on all the HL websites, and finally just gave up. Short of buying a new soundcard, I can't use HLs ingame voice comm. Theres no reason to shell out more money just because HL has problems with it, Ive never had problems with ANY other game/program/whatever.

    There is absolutely no valid reason why there shouldn't be a weld icon, or a "Need a weld!" voice thing in game.

    Teamsay or voicecomm.

    If they ignore you...... well thats just unfortunate.

    Spamming or being a smacktard will generally result in YOU being punished, and makes you worse than them, so don't do it kthx.

    If they don't listen, its time to find a new, better server that has players that will. Don't blame it on voice-chat, not having a mic, team say or what not. Take it upon yourself to play games with players that play the game well.

    get your microphone and scream weld into it or something. or go to a pub where there are experienced marines that know when to weld.

    Yes, we need more people to sound like www.pwned.nl

    I'm sure that'll help so much.

    Or, more likely, people will think you're a noob for screaming down the mic, mute you, and never weld you again, ever.

    Here's a way to get welded.

    1) Open up sound recorder.
    2) Press Record
    3) Say what you want to say that involves asking being welded. (I say "Weld me you n00b!"). Say it as FAST as possible. "weldmeyounoob!"
    4) Now, use the voice recording program to deepen the sound (Slows down playback.)
    5) Use your new "deep" voice to command attention and get welded. Simply use a playback program or don't use headphones and play it back.

    Or just play on Friendly Fire on servers and threaten to kill everyone if they don't get to welding.
  • LitoLito Join Date: 2003-09-04 Member: 20560Members
    Please, don't use the playback program we're <b>all</b> thinking of, because it entices you to use it for very...very...annoying things.

    And your second suggestion will result in a ban from that server.

    Threatening isn't bannable. Doing it is. ^^;

    Hah, I remember when nearly every game I joined someone used a playback program and all you'd hear is "Can't touch this! Duum duum dum dum, dum dum, dum dum Can't touch this!". My guess is it came with the program.

    It spread like wild fire for awile, till they all were getting kicked for "Mic spamming."

    What I did once was use the sound recording method for a deep voice, then I used an actual sound recorder (A real life one.) and recorded it from the computer. Then when I wanted to use it I just held the recorder to my mic and played back.

    "Listen up frat boy! I'm going to kill as many of you ****ers as possible if you don't weld me RIGHT NOW!!!"

    "ok ok i will weld u"

    Works all the time. Sometimes if FF isn't on -_-;;

    Using voicechat is a nice idea, will try.
    But I'll try this without external programs, HL can do it itself.

    i have a bind that yells "i need welding!" and flashes the flashlight a few times. it has worked pretty nicely. and if they just stare at u drop them your welder. if that doesnt work either, well... time to find another server.

    sometimes, sadly, it's most prudent to escape back to base, via a PG if no one welds you. i know as acomm, i'd rather have the competent rine save that.. 30 or so rez by saving himself and hoping his teammates come to their senses than get killed by a skulk.

    Hey how do you make your self like tilt back at really wierd angles? I've seen others do that.

    It's very wierd to see a marine who is walking and shooting normally except his model is tilted back 80 degrees. Very odd and gets attention.

    - Status: acknowledged -> <span style='color:red'>meaning they are considering to implement it</span>
    - Summary: improvements to "sayings"
    - Description:
    here are some possible improvements for sayings like "need ammo" and "need healing" used by marines and aliens:

    1. match up the impulse numbers used by marines and aliens wherever possible. for instance, need medpack and need healing should share the same impulse, as should the taunts.

    2. add new, more useful sayings (replacing old ones if necessary):

    a. marines:
    * need welding
    * negative
    * hold position
    * cover me

    b. aliens [some of these would likely use visual cues on hive sight instead of sound]:
    * need backup
    * area clear

    these are just examples...perhaps poll the community as to what would truly be useful. also, evox had the idea of <span style='color:red'>adding icons above players' heads when they use these sayings</span>. sounds like a good idea to me.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    So HOPEFULLY they will implement it. It would be neat to (for the welding anyway) that the symbol remains 5 to ten seconds above your head and eventually automaticly dissapears once you got welded.

    One little tip when faced with noobs that won't weld: be very careful about dropping your welder to make them understand you need welding. In at least 50% of the cases the noob picks up the welder and runs off, never to be seen again.

    And I'm all for the "need welding" teamsay and icon thingy.

    alias weldme "impulse 100;wait;impulse 100;wait;impulse 100;wait;impulse 100;say_team [ATTN: MY ARMOR IS LOW / PLEASE WELD ME / I AM FLASHING TO GET YOUR ATTENTION]"

    Works on mp_blockscript servers. Spam it until you get welded. The way I figure, anyone who is enough of a complete figgot to actually use the mute command on a team based game except in dire circumstances and only temporarily is exactly the kind of vindictive little gamer shatface you never want to play a game with. www.pwned.nl uses the mute command. DONT BE HIM. Anyone with some adult patience who is trying to have a fun game and cares about teamplay will eventually see the blinking, jumping, spinning, spamming heavy suit and respond to you. You kill two birds with one stone.

    You might even want to start shooting people pointblank in the face, FF or not. You can always count on loud noises and shiny flashes to get a retard's attention. Constantly blocking their path is another thing you can do.

    Oh yeah, and if you're low on armor, <span style='color:yellow'>NEVER HOLD OUT YOUR WELDER.</span> Flashing and ramming a teamsay bind over and over and over and over and over makes your intention clear. On the other hand, holding a welder out is a big sign over your head that says to any skulk in the area <span style='color:yellow'>"I DO NOT HAVE A GUN CAPABLE OF KILLING YOU IN MY HANDS RIGHT NOW, AND I AM TRYING TO TELL MY TEAM TO WELD ME, WHICH MEANS I AM BOTH LOW ON ARMOR, AND NONE OF MY TEAMMATES WELD ME WITHOUT HAVING TO BE TOLD. IN FACT, THAT PROBABLY MEANS THEY CAN'T EVEN COVER ME FROM SKULKS LIKE YOU. PLEASE MR SKULK, TAKE 3 BITES TO KILL ME IF YOU CAN SPARE THE TIME."</span>

    Just keep spamming it, spinning around, jumping, and so forth. If these are REAL newbs we're talking about, then don't throw the welder at them unless you KNOW they already are carrying one. When people pick up a welder or pack of mines, it doesn't autoswitch, so these newbs probably just have absolutely no clue. If you have a working microphone that can actually pick up the different tones of your voice, nothing gets results faster than picking a tone of voice that says "Here I am, been playing NS forever, know what I'm doing, but I'm being forced to play on a public server with you SpEds. It's not your fault that you're a drooling mental reject, so I forgive you, but please, pretend that what I'm asking you to do is important." Sometimes, you just have to shrug your shoulders and do your best to escape from your "teammates" and get back to base in one piece. Jumping into a phasegate is the fastest way to do this, and guarantees that no matter what happens to the idiots left on the other side, you keep your equipment.

    This really is a question of ethics. Is it right to leave them? Even if you're the only marine who actually welds? YES. Leave them NOW. Leave them and pray to whatever you believe in that they get killed by two skulk players rushing them over and over. Once the game gets this bad, it's not a game anymore, and the usual ethics of teamwork no longer apply.

    Typically, if your commander has the minimum intelligence required to drop welders, he knows more than those other guys. Just stay right at base and don't go anywhere, and take a few minutes to ask the commander to step out of the chair to weld your armor. If those other fools don't understand the value of keeping your armor at 100%, maybe your commander will. Plus, if you make it clear to the COMMANDER that the team isn't welding, he'll do all the work of getting the stupid fcknewbs to listen, and might even hop out of the chair for long enough to weld you up. I can't tell you how often I've just phased back to base and stood there waiting. If my team doesn't cooperate, why play along? Sure, it feels stupid having to run to Daddy Commander and say DAAAD BILLY WON'T WELD ME, but it's the only thing you can do, and it's absolutely the correct thing to do.

    Oh yeah and join a clan or ditch NS before you get this spiteful of the pub "community."

    Pubs can be fun. It is kinda fun to be one of the guys with the most skill on the server.

    Actually this thread reminds me of how annoying people can be when you are commander.

    comm jp now (ok **** I don't have an advanced armory or arms labs so shut up)
    comm ha-again-for-the-50th-time
    comm give me [insert weapon name here and spam like crazy]
    comm-i-wanna-hump-the-armory-all-day-and-whine-about-not-having-toys-yet

    If you are being a total arse I <i>will</i> ignore you. Screaming little boys wanting their toys makes me want to kick you.

    Just be respectful, not getting a weld isn't as bad as starting a trend of rampant spam and screaming to get a weld or toys.

    Welding is not skill-based. A trained chimp could do it [edit] better than some teammates I've been forced into having.

    Oh yeah, and I just noticed that the topic reads "how to make your MATES weld you."

    Was this on an AUS or EUR server? 10 to 1 says it had to be. I'm sorry for you. Domestic servers here in the states typically have SLIGHTLY brainier pubbers. Slightly.

    Very slightly.
