Not necessesarily. If you watch Myth Busters they proved that a penny thrown off the empire state building, which reaches terminal velocity (its high enough for them to do that) can't even really penetrate skin, and if they do penetrate, it wouldn't be like "OMG IM DYING". But then again I'm guessing a human body would have a lot more kinetic energy than a penny, and the depending on how she hit the force over the area which she hit could affect it. Either way kudos to her I guess.

correction, momentum. ~edit~ Well we all knew what you meant so sorry to nit pick.

Anyways we of course a penny wouldn't kill you, mabye even have a less wind resistance but the keys to remember here is how much momentum and how quickly a time to decelerate. Which I'm repeating so please read page two of this thread where I outline the physics already.

Have you taken a physics class? I don't mean any offense or anything <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> But I've never had any teacher use the term 'momentum' its all about inertia, and kinetic energy, which are two different things, that are related.

true dat. We were relating mass and velocity agaisn the friction of air against gravity which causes a terminal velocity (for those of you who don't know what that means, it means that there is a max speed in which we free fall at versus accelerating continiously)

Again I said I was sorry to nit pick because it was kind of ambigious in the first place.

Besides you got to admit the visual of here being cut in half or splattering is intriguing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    omg wth rl h4x!

In all seriousness, she must've been pretty lucky. Shame her parachute malfunctions but hey, it happens.

At least she wasn't sliced into half when she hit the powerline. I told you we should've buried them....now we have another famous person =_____=

Well, I must admit that I pretty strongly suspect that this made-up. There's many stories that circulate around the world cropping up every decade or so, going "My friend once heard from a friend that...". There were some scientists at some point that tracked down stories like that and did some research. Most turned out to be fake (based on journals from hospitals, police reports etc.). I seem to remember having heard about something like this before, but I can't exactly place it. That in itself doesn't discredit the story of course, but it does make me suspicious. And in my experience, if something sounds too unbelievable to be true, it probably is.

You might want to consider that next time you hear a story about a diver being taken from a lake and dumped over a fire from a plane, or a soccer goalie catching a baby falling from a Xth story window (those are actual examples of fake stories, I might add).
