Animated Lava

I'm working on my first map and it has a certain theme in which lava plays an important role. I found a lava texture, but it isn't animated. There is some great writhing lava in one of the NS maps, can't remember which one. I also couldn't find any animated lava in any of the wad files anywhere actually. How do I create animated lava? I've tried using func_water with content lava, and I've tried various wave sizes. But my lava just sits there and glows. That is ok, but I am looking for something a bit more sexy.

Now in my first usage the lava actually forms the backdrop for the exits from the ready room, as a result the lava is on its side, is this why the lava content for the func_water doesn't appear to be having any effect?

!hotmetal is a lava texture that will act like water (without waves) and you don't need to turn it into an entity if the area isn't accesible

Edit: the ! prefix makes it act like water

It's recommended to put it into your lights.rad too...

hmmm, I need to control the brightness of the texture, if I just leave it alone it is too bright. I'm not talking about the light it is giving off, I am talking about the brightness of the texture itself. Is there any way to tone it down? I tried func_illusionary and func_wall and neither worked.

Thanks for the lights.rad advice Align.

If you DO have it in your lights.rad, but don't want it to be so bloody bright.. I think youll just have to remove it from your lights.rad.
In any case, set the Render Mode to Solid, that should make it have the proper lighting.

No the problem was that the texture itself was too bright. I tried adjusting the brightness, contrast and intensity in my paint program, but I still wasn't happy with the results, so in the end I just deleted the brushes and went with a solid black background which does the job nicely.
