Very poor framerates in ns

<div class="IPBDescription">Getting very low fps in ns only</div>First off, thanks for a great mod thats probably gonna rekindle peoples interests in HL..

My problem is this, I installed NS with all the bells and whistles enabled (such as 32 bit textures etc)...

Now when I'm playing I get 13 fps, playing with this fps is nigh on impossible if your expected to have a fast reaction time to attacks.

Its quite odd, in other HL mods I'll get near constant 85 FPS (vsync is on, refresh rate is 85Hz) and if I do a TIMEREFRESH in the console it near always reports my FPS as being above 200.

I run HL in a window so I can alt tab out without lagging / losing audio. This hasn't affected the game in the past.

*
How can I increase my FPS in NS? (bear in mind no other game is affected)
*

My spec is as follows:

--
Athlon 1 GHz OC'ed to 1.3
Abit KT7-RAID Mobo (nopageminimum patch already applied)
256 MB PC133 RAM
Hercules Prophet III (Geforce 3, 64MB DDR ram, AGP4x)
Hercules Game Theater XP
Various other components yadda yadda
Windows 2000 SP3 w/o nasty MS spyware code.

Have you tried switching video modes from D3D to OpenGL (or whatever)?

You get as much FPS as I get with:

    PII 400 MHz
    TNT 16 MB
    192 MB RAM

    Isn't it fun?  <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

And switching from D3D to OPENGL or from OPENGL to D3D can't help your FPS...?

I have the same issue, on a smaller scale: Generally I can get 30 FPS in any HL mod, but NS gives me a steady 4, even when looking at a blank wall from zero distance.

    Four frames a second.

    Any ideas?

What are your spec's?  What card, what resolution, 32 bit mode or 16 bit, did you turn off the extraneous stuff with cl_autohelp 0?  Is it this way playing aliens, marines, or both?
