Sata Controller Drivers?

I recently bought a new 120 gig seagate sata HD for my new computer, but windows setup doesnt automaticly recognize it. Durning the boot disk phase of windows setup there is a line that says "Press f6 to install third party raid or sata drivers". I think this is what I want, but it then prompts me to instert a floppy contraing SATA controller drivers. The hd was ordered OEM, so I assume that this floppy did not come with it. Is there anyway I can get the data from this floppy and just put on onto a blank one to allow me to install the SATA controller drivers?

    I looked on Seagate's site for you, didn't find a driver, it said you do indeed need the floppy. Probably should just email their support and ask how to go about getting the driver.

    Yeah, I checked thier site, I was hoping someone would have a copy of the floppy or another place I could get it.

    edit: this isnt exactly for my asus a8v mobo, but it comes close, think this would work?

    <a href='http://www.asus.com/support/faq/qanda.aspx?KB_ID=88208' target='_blank'>http://www.asus.com/support/faq/qanda.aspx?KB_ID=88208</a>

    Ps. It is a 20 min commute from my house to a place with internet that I can use, so I'd like to make sure before I driver back home.

    edit2: ok I managed to find another file on the asus site call asus sata driver extractor, which prompted me in instert a blank floppy, and coppied (what I hope is) sata drivers to use with windows xp setup.

    I still cannot find any way to use this stupid serial ATA hard drive. I've search everywhere I can find on the internet, and cant find it. I've called the retail, and they sent me to talk to hitachi. The number they gave me was for a branch that only made lcd monitors. After searching around for a while, I found a service number to call for HGST, which seems to be thier computer parts division. The service people had no idea what I wanted, and did not even know what a serial ATA connection was. So, I'm just about to give up on Sata and return the drive unless anyone else has any idea how to use them.

    Drivers should come with your motherboard cd. There should be some sort of .exe that will make a bootdisk for you.

    When you do a fresh install of windows, it asks you if you have any third party drivers before windows installs, and thats when you hit F6 or something and then you put in the floppy and it installs.

    Hope this helps... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Mullet is correct, the drivers should come with your motherboard (if you have an onboard SATA controller) or with the controller card if you have one of those, not the HD.

    Ok, yes on the motherboard disk, under drivers, under ata, there is a file called make disk. It asks to insert a floppy, and works for 10 mins. I try it, but at the step in windows setup where you insert the disk, it says irrelevent data.

    Format the disc and try again. If that dosn't work, then try a new floppy.

    This happend to me and my friend about 4 times until we found a floppy that worked <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    After the third floppy, Window setup said that I sucessfully loaded the SATA drivers. I'm prompted to continue installation, and it scans for hard disks, and says it cant find any and can't continue. Is there yet another step I'm missing.

    Edit: Can having another hard drive (using IDE) set as the master cause the SATA one not to be detected?

    That depends on the mobo iirc. Try disconnecting the IDE during the install, unless youre planning on putting windows on it.

    I had to mess around with mine for a while till it worked, found out the problem was not having the drive listed as a HD in the bios.
