Knight Of The Old Republic

Tech Support - Can anyone help?
Hey, i've recently posted in the bioware site about this as well but I thought posting here would be good measure as well. For those of you who have / do play kotor I hope you know a way to fix my problem. Currently when I load new areas there is a chance that I will recieve a error and the game will crash popping up a windows error report. From what i've read on the forums this is due to some type of driver conflict. Many have said that installing old catalyst 4.2 drivers reduces the occurance of the crashing but here is were my problem comes in. I'm using a mobility radeon 9700, ie: laptop and I cant use catalyst drivers. I instead use omega drivers which also seem to have the same crashing bug. If anyone has any tips on how to remedy the situation I'm all ears.
I hope this bug doesnt ruin the game for me .

Installing the 4.2 catalysts did work as claimed by other people. But don't be discouraged even if you're certain installing them is not an option for you. You may be able to get away with just copying some key files from the installer to certain folders associated with Windows or Kotor itself. I'll quote something I found a few weeks ago and copy-pasted to a notepad document (unfortunately I didn't write down where I got it)

I've solved my problem
I am using catalyst 4.7 with atioglxx.dll open gl driver from 4.2 catalyst's
This seem's to have solved all my problems when loading a new area.
umm, I'm a noob ... how do you separately install the 4.2 open gl driver?
Do this by these steps.......
1. Install Catalyst 4.2
2. Copy the atioglxx.dll from your Windows\System32 directory to a safe location.
3. Remove the Catalyst 4.2 Drivers....
4. Install the Catalyst 4.7 Drivers....
5. Copy the "saved" atioglxx.dll from its safe location to the Windows\System32 and replace the one already in there......
Hope this helps.......
Well, thats the hard way to do it...
1. d/l Cat 4.2's
2. open the exe with winrar or winzip.
3. find the atioglxx.dl_ file and extract it
4. in your command prompt, find the file, and type "expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll"
5. Copy atioglxx.dll into your SWKotor directory. the game will then use the 4.2 OGL driver, but you don't have to worry about having old OGL drivers for other games, and you don't have to install-unistall-reinstall etc...

Be aware that this did NOT work for me! But if it works for you, great. And if not, it gives you an idea of how having certain files in certain places might do the trick. You just have to be patient enough to search online for advice about which go where.
