like from SI
If any of you have ever played the mod Science and Industry you know about the emp gun and the secondary fire. The secondary fire of this gun is kind of an EMP grenade and the first time I saw this I fell in love with it... and my request I bring forward to you modelers today is to replicate that in NS models shells an ideally the EMP explosion that goes with it. Think of it as electrifying skulks to death.

I'm attaching some images.

Are you aware that the effects of an EMP would not affect non-electronic entities (such as a Skulk)?

<s>All physics aside, this would basically be a contact grenade with impressive lighting effects and particle systems. I think the GL already performs sufficiently in this area.</s>

edit: Oh, I get it now... you want the GL to look like the EMP gun, and the grenade explosion to look like the EMP blast (which should actually be invisible... ).

I'm sure the explosion bit would be quite easy using sprites.

yep... just replace the zerogxplo.spr and zerogxplode.spr with another sprite. so all explosions will look like that...

But a REAL EMP shockwave can't be done, because it's coded in S&I...

Hey I'm just calling it an EMP gun because that's what the game named it, I'm well aware of the effects of emp and what it does and does not effect.

Actually, that explosion looks like it uses HL's "laser" effects...so sprites wouldn't cut it.

I wasn't thinking of exact reproduction. I'm quite aware of what sprites can and cannot do.

An EMP blast like the ones in C&C: Generals could be done using sprites.
