Have You Noticed How General Discussion Has Gotten

Dumber?

I decided to wander over and see how things were in General Discussion, and I was met with what seemed to be a large pile of stupid.

I usually just poke around in Off Topic, and, on occasion, roll into Discussions inside a large, flame-retardant tank, so I was rather surprised to see what had happened to General Discussion.

Theres threads about the B.U.S. (again), people spouting false information, general mass confusion, and some people who don't even know where to go to download Natural Selection. People, if you can't figure that out, you shouldn't be playing.

Well, this is probably going to get edited/locked by a moderator, but I needed to get that out of my system.

I took a vow not to post in I&S a long time ago, back when my postcount was at 2000 or so. Then recently I saw a smart thread (I know, I know, unlikely as it seems--it happened), and I posted in it, then I began to post in I&S again. Damn! Sucked into it like some kind of black hole.

and bashing other forums makes us sooooooooo much better.

...is off-topic the only place where people whine about other forums?

What really interests me is that the mapping and customization forums are frequented by entirely different people than any other forum, with a few people who cross over. I feel like I'm crossing some invisible line when I read a thread in one of those forums, there are so many different names.

Humanity is stupid. I thought you would know that by now.

People seem to believe everyone. Instead of believing official news/word from official NS figures, they just believe everything they see from random people who make up nonsense. It's sad. But such is life

Yea, the mapping community is pretty isolated. There are a few exceptions, like me, that spend a lot of time in the OT forum.

And yea, I try to stay away from General. I have a feeling that it is populated wiht 10 year olds that ride the short yellow dropship...

True. I came from the GD forums, but now that place scares me.

EDIT: We're lucky to have (mostly) avoided the stupidity found there, but I have seen a few cases where it's leaked through.

I use to post all around. But then things just started to change and nothing really interested me. Now I just stick with off topic.

Off-topic is the only place I lurk, although I barely ever post.
To me the NS-community is the off-topic forum.

I post off topic, mapping, and customization. The mapping forum is the most dramatic internet forum I have ever seen in my intire life.

It's weird how people post something in gen forums and say I posted here because I think no one reads off topic forums when twice as many people view off topic than gen. Happened twice.

The mapping forum is for chumps and champions. As for off-topic, 90% of threads relate to fixing/upgrading computers, you can thank Doom 3 for that.

I used to post alot in the veteran forum before flayra abandoned NS as a game, I sometimes post in discussions but you can't have open discussion there without bombarding people with URLS to cnn news, and if you don't flock together and agree you can potentially be banned for having a differening opinion. (one of the NS team's sprite artists was banned because he didnt agree with someone high up)

Generally its a waste of time to post there, because its an ego-fest.

I myself have been going into General Discussion more often these days, just to try and maybe help clean it up. I myself have found its MUCH better than it used to be, and sure, while there is a lot of bad stuff(and don't get 'em for not knowing the d/l loc is- the 4a link doesn't work if you have SP2, a firewall, or a browser that doesn't like it).

I think the lot of us that still plays NS should be in there MORE than we are right now, trying to help keep the intelligence up and the community fun. I'd like to enjoy the entire forums like I do OT, but that won't happen if there isn't many of us.

Hyper something psycho geek was his name. Him and Monse got into it pretty good in their and he banned him, last I heard he refused to update the NS sprites any longer. I can't blame him. What kind of simpleton lets a differing opinion cloud ones judgement like that.

regardless its pretty rediculous to ban someone because they don't agree with you

I agree totally. I was temp banned once because of some petty squables in discussions before it was closed the first time. Although I was told that it was because of excessive 1337 use. When I (rightly) protested the accusation, I was told that I had oviously edited every post I had ever made ever, and then promptly banned for what ended up being about a month. And lemme tell ya, I'm still a bit miffed over that.

The name was Psycho-Kinetic Hyper-Geek. That clears up that issue. I had seen his name in the picture in Ollj's signature, so I knew he had been involved in NS. I couldn't understand why he had been banned (which I saw by looking at the list of Banned people).

Anyway, General Discussion is falling apart. That is what finally caused me to start coming to Off Topic, which happened within the last few months.

Yeah I only go to those 3 as well. Most of the rest give me a great urge to either bash my head on something or kill the poster. Sometimes both.

As for mapping, it's not as interesting/dramatic with Nexus temp-suspended Now everything's about mapping... Counter-flames from regular participants of that forum? Check.
Grossly wrong assessments of the game, 'proved' by year old actions of a person no longer around, much less in any official position? Check.
