I had that same problem when I changed the origin of the DooM 3 AR to be more accurate to the original in Doom 3, and it resulted in the muzzleflash covering 90% of the crosshair. I fixed it by using the welder sprite as a muzzleflash (although it looks a little weird). Find welderfire.spr or something and change it to muzzleflash1.spr

Muzzleflashes are sprites, not models.
