New thing...
Sorry, I am newbie to this forum not sure if this is athe right place to post something like this...

Anyway i play alot of Custom map servers, and most of the time the Server uploads the map .bsp to you but not the minimap.spr to you which is pretty usefull.

However i noticed a command "buildminimap" that scan the level and constructs a minimap! But this command only works if the "sv_cheat 1" is enabled (and no normal server has this activated) so if i get a new map i have to create my server with the map, activate "sv_cheat 1" and build the map then reconnect to server

I was just wondering that if in future releases the minimap command could be executed without having sv_cheats enabled!

Thanks again!

Load up a test server or something and execute the command. Note the CPU usage. Now do you see why it's an sv_cheats command? It's just better if the map maker would provide the .spr files, or go open a listen server and generate them.

Yea sure i get that but even so my CPU usage never goes over 60% unless im running more than one game but true i can keep opening servers.

I just thought it would be good idea seeing as though even if it did use 100% on some peoples comps it wouldn't lag the server just gameplay and they are the ones who knowingly type the command in

The minimap is actually generated on the server, and is transmitted to the client through the buildminimap command. All the CPU load you notice while building the minimap on a listen server would be added onto the hlds process.

Its the server that makes the minimap, then it sends it to the player.

Grr beaten to it by sawce.

AHH Okay reading your post more carefully I now get what your saying...

I type in "buildminimap" and then it sends a requests to server and the Servers CPU is used to build the map then it is uploaded to the client requesting it. SO unless the server is a beast comp it would just lag out.

lol thanks for explaing it now i see its a stupid question
