Make sure your system is clean of spyware, use Spybot S&D and Ad aware 6.0. Also make sure your Nvidia Desktop Manager is disabled. Do you notice a ping spike when this happens? What is your connection, cable?

If using a modem/router, try unplugging (not just turning off) wait 30 secs and plug back in. This will clear and reset the units.

I had a similar problem when I first got my laptop. I found that turning off the System Restore option in Windows fixed it for me. However, if this problem just started occuring then perhaps that is not it. My only other suggestion would be to make sure to exit all other programs, specifically ones that start up with Windows. They might be hogging processing power and memory.

Why I ask about the looping sounds is that sb live cards can sometimes go buggy in half life. There's a thread about it on the steam tech support boards, do a search for "looping sounds" .
Basically you can try moving your card to a different IDE slot, or turning down hardware acceleration. Only way I fixed my problem was to get a newer sound card, hasn't happened since.

It's the gfx card, sorry to say so but i know (cuz my mom has it too) i haven't been able fix it.

Geforce 2 mx 400 is gonna freeze gaming duing the last thing you did, does to mouse and keyboard. (haven't tested with joysticks since i dont have any)
