Best Horror Film
<div class="IPBDescription">Coming soon</div> "Saw" the movie is supposed to be the most incredible horror flick to come out in many, many, many (dare I say MANY) years. It's sick, it's twisted, it's gory, and it is pure horror.
Over the past 15 years, Horror has made this wierd transition, so that now the way to grade a horror movie goes like this:
horrific <- - - - - - - - - - - - - -> hilarious.
Most "horrific" movies were '70's to mid-80's. Most newer films have been cheesy/funny.
Not this new film. "Saw" is the saving grace of horror films. At least we hope so. It may even get the NC-17 rating. I hope it does. Seriously.

But as to what you said, yes a lot of recent horrors have been crap, but you can't seriously say you don't laugh your way through "vintage" horrors? Come on! Some of them are the most hillarious movies to date.
1.) Bad acting
2.) Bad plot
3.) "Dark" humor used by evil one in movie
4.) Taking the seriousness out of the film.
For example: Hellraiser vs Hellraiser 2.
Hellraiser was amazing, hands down. The acting was totally top notch, the plot was actually done by Clive Barker himself (best fiction writer ever), it was completely serious, etc.
Hellraiser 2 exemplifies the list of bad things in new horror films. A new cenobyte with lines like "The doctor is in the house" as he floats in the air with his huge flaccid phallus head is all that needs to be said to prove how much this movie sucked compared to the original.

Well, i guess Hellraiser's kinda true. That went from amazing (Hellraiser 1) to goddamn laughable (Hellraiser 3) pretty easily, then it went further down with the likes of Bloodlines. But i'm talking OLD old horror, zombie movies and the like. EDIT: They've changed the tagline in that version of the trailer. In other versions of that trailer that I've seen (as well as a different trailer) the word "messed" was not there, rather a much naughtier word that begins with the letter "F". That makes no sense. I mean, they're warning about "disturbing content" in a trailer for a horror movie that looks to be totally.. uh.. "messed up", and yet they take out expletives?

For some reason, most people make trailers to be PG-13. Probably so they can get it played on TV, before other movies (With a lesser rating) and such.

I have to disagree with you there, there were planty of terrible horror movies made in the 70s and early 80s, there were planty of terrible horror films made in the 50s and 60s too. The fact is, nearly ALL horror movies are hilarious no matter what era they were made in, simply becuase good horror is so tough to pull off.
[edit] And oh yes, murderous clowns are funny. And when a movie has to TELL you it's effed up, that is also funny.

Well, maybe they saw IGN as a more "family" site so gave them the PG-13 trailer. I'll take a peek on the net to find the profane one.
Yes, there were plenty of cheesy horror movies, ever since the genre first appeared. However, the best horror flicks were in the 70's-80's. There have not been any good horror films since the 80's. Horror IS difficult to pull off, which is why I cannot wait for this film to come out. It looks to be the best film of the genre in a long, long time, although I doubt it will be as mind-tingling as Hellraiser was.
...In fact, I doubt that any horror film could compare to Hellraiser. It was horrific on every level imaginable.
But "Saw" should still be amazing, due to its psychological aspect (the killer is making people choose to live or die). Horror/Thriller = good times
