Ns waiting games
Well, seems MonsE isn't doing his PR job very well, so here it is for the folks who don;t visit the readyroom as often as I do

The Readyroom has gone Redneck!!! Coming early next week, the Readyroom will be proud to present the First Annual Flaytona 500 NSTR2 Racing Event. Players will compete in several races to establish standing, then have elimination races down to a final field, depending on the number of players we have showing up. Everything will also be 'taped' into demo loops, with an AVI highlight reel available to all you loyal NS fans. We even have loot for the winners! Check it: http://www.readyroom.org for more info on prizes and rules!

*NOTE* : The NSTR2 is NEEDED for this! Get the download links at the readyroom too!

I was going to make a race map for gloom last year but I came to the realisation i can't map but I kmow the best way to make a speed map
Slippery surface + push entity = speed that you never thought possible it was done on slideways_g in gloom for example

As for the maps, they will be coming soon, some mappers are just pumping out a few more, and all the maps needed for the racing will be included in a file for your dowloading enjoyment!

7.30 Pm == 1.30 AM in Belgium, needless 2 say more.
• RavenousRavenous Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 48Members
1.30 AM .. is that the same as 13.30 ? If it is I won't be home for another 30 mins. You think I can still compete after 30 mins of the first start ?

Erm... Mons? How much blood was left in your alcohol when you came up with that idea?

Anyway, setting the contest on 7.30 EST really kicks us Europeans, it'll be at least midnight over here. If you want to stick with monday, at least try and put it on 5.30. Or how about saturday?
• TraneTrane Join Date: 2002-02-01 Member: 148Members
saturday sounds much easier
• MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Hmmm. Well, if we need to do a weekend race, it will have to be next Saturday. Otherwise the mappers won't have enough time. Then we could aim for a late afternoon race. It's usually funnier if it's late and you're getting squirrely, though...

Why not hold seperate lagues for the Europeans and the rest of the world. Then we dont have to compete when were all tired and slow. I think its all a conspiracy to stop us from winning
• MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Hmmmm - an excellent idea! The only issue is we need enough European competitors in the field to make it worth the race. And I'm out 2 sets of prizes!
• Shuvit_ViperShuvit_Viper Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 62Members
Im in! i already said i would be in, but i can't because i have exam-week. otherwise i would stay awake, A european tournament sounds like the solution. If there are not enough competitors i say we go for the weekend. Although then my just-finished map ns_hazardcourse would have much more competition. Its fun to play i think but it looks eehm... ugly.

-

If we have a european and non-european cup, we could make a intercontinental final? this could be in the middle of the night for me (i have my last exam tuesday (:)
• KassingerKassinger Shades of grey Join Date: 2002-02-20 Member: 229Members, Constellation
I'd say have separated tournaments but with a final in the weekend for both tournaments.

Yeah, great idea Kassinger.

Europeans play off against each other, as do the rest of the world. A certain amount from each go through to the final which is for everyone (depending upon how many people are in each league)
• pielemuispielemuis Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 72Members, NS1 Playtester
who needs prices anyway monsE, it's just fun!
It'll be big enough reward finishing first.
• chalupamonkchalupamonk sky h4x0r Join Date: 2002-02-19 Member: 227Members, NS1 Playtester
I say forget about the actual game for first prize - I don't think many people would like that game anyway. Make it somthing simpler, and if you're feeling EXTRA kind you can make 1st place be a spot on the beta testing team.

OK, I'm not promising, but I'll try to get an NSTR2 update out to you folks before race night. In it, I'm thinking of including:

1. Player IDs (when you look at someone)
2. Allowing bunny jumping (there should be SOME racing skill involved)
3. Holding crouch means you can't fall off walls

I'm not sure if I'll have time to work on it, or if the auto-update will work smoothly, but we'll see.

sorry if this has been asked already, but where and when do we find out where and when we will be racing?
• MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
That would be the IRC channel on irc.gamesnet.com in the #naturalselection channel. Check out the main page FAQ for more info (though not much more) on how to get in there. (Use mIRC, Luke! Use mIRC! )

(It's not a firewall I have on meh comp, so I can't decide over it)

Kassigner, I don't know if this will work or not, but try setting the IRC option (forget where) for time until timeout from 60 seconds to 120. That worked for me at home, as it would timeout before then.
• MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
See other post. The Flaytona will be delayed until next weekend due to lack of racer submissions and a few mappers still tidying things up. Oh, and those pesky timezoned Euro's. Bah! You're all just jealous beacuse you missed the boat to Plymouth Rock!
