First of many stories
I figured I would take a break from some mod work I am doing and model searching and do a little short story, which will be continued later. Hope you enjoy it.

Shortly after the first encounter with the Kharaa, the TSA commissioned a special fast response group, which would be sent out on short notice to engage high level threats. This unit was called the J-Detachment, and like the paratroopers of World War 2, only the best of best were accepted into their ranks. This special unit, comprised of just over one hundred soldiers, was equipped with their own specialized weaponry and deployment craft. This story documents their first mission in the war against the Kharaa, and shows that no matter how prepared you are, you are never prepared enough.

"Entering warp path 112" the lulling female voice explained through the overhead speaker system. The ship violently lunged forward, and the craft bounced annoyingly for another ten minutes or so until the speakers came on again. "Exiting warp path 112, executing free float" the speakers cut off with a crackle. Turning to his left, Pvt. Leone whispered to a fellow marine "Free float? The hell does that mean..." The soldier looked up "Means the Captain has the controls bud, first time out?" That got a nod from Leone. As trained and experienced as he was, Leone was behind the space game, and had never performed a space operation. It was still foreign and confining to be in a ship, he missed the fresh air already. Just then the mission leader walked in from the cockpit area. "We will be deploying in two minutes boys and girls” he paused and looked around at the sitting marines "As you already know, we don't do clean ups, we do in and outs. The aliens have too strong a foothold on this ship, the grunts can't handle it, so we're gonna get in there and blow the **** out of it". That got applause from the troops, who were now loading their customized weapons. Since the J-Detachment was very new, they had not yet established a primary mission briefing protocol, but they had been sent into action anyways. Leone hoped that there would be a briefing protocol put into action soon, as it was hard to do your job when you didn't know what the hell it was until your boots hit the ground. He was glad however that they would be 'Hive Hunting' as the TSA often called it, they wouldn't have to save the ship, it was too late for that. All they had to do was blow it out of space. Of course the ship could easily be shot down by a space fighter, but those birds had a small fuel supply and often only operated out of large A-Class Star Cruisers so that they could easily pull back and refuel. And goddamnit if they would bother hauling one of those behemoths all the way out to the middle of nowhere. Leone quickly looked up as the red deployment lights started flashing, and got ready to un-buckle himself and run out of the craft. Procedure said that a deployment ship should not, at any costs, stay docked near an infested starship for a prolonged period of time, and J-Detachment liked to keep that time minimal. It was almost time. He had trained for about six months straight on model spacecraft back home, and it was time to see if that would pay off.

Stay tuned for part 2 when the action starts
