Is There Any Way To Know...

Motherboard question
this motherboard forces me to underclock my cpu to avoid constantly crashing. it's also given me alot of other problems with usb ports and such. last time i buy any ECS products. anyway, i'm looking to upgrade to a nice asus or msi, but i really don't want to format my hard-drive.
in past upgrades i've placed my old hard-drive, complete with OS, in a new computer. it then refuses to boot, which i'm told is a motherboard problem. is there any way to know which motherboards are compatible?
i don't really have anywhere to backup all my **** on. i probably should have partitioned the drive...

Second off my CPU was "underclocked" also because theres a little switch near my AGP slot limiiting the bus speeds. With the switch on it forced my 2700+ down to 1500+
All you need to do is find the switch and move it in the opposite direction its currently in
I don't know what kind of processor that is off hand, but it should either be Duron or XP. Find out which, then find all mobos that are compatible with that.
i actually underclocked it manually from the BIOS, changed the bus from 266 to 200.
