Just before the console lifts to connect to a server, NS quits and gives me a fatal exception error with windows )(blue screen).  Any suggestions?

Yes, latest drivers and updates for everything.  It's just Natural Selection that is causing the blue screen as all other games are working fine.  I've switched between opengl and direct3d, and neither work with NS.

There are a couple things you can try (my suspicion is an audio problem):

Make sure you have fmod.dll in your Half-Life directory. Should be dated 8/30/2002

If so, remove the MP3 files from your \music directory in NS.

If still having problems, post here again, attaching your config.cfg file.

im using the cs retail version if that matters...i found the fmod.dll file and it is dated 8/30/2002, i took out the music files and i still get the blue screen...heres my config.cfg file

    Figured it out.

In your \NS\config.cfg file, make the following change:

    It will say -

    <b>s_eax "0.000000"
    s_a3d "0.000000" </b>

    Change it to -

    <b>s_eax "1"
    s_a3d "1"</b>

Save the file, then connect and save the world from Skulks. Rock.

Well thats what MonsieurEvil came up with over ICQ and it works for me.  Make sure you have the latest video/sound drivers is all I can suggest.

I had this exact same problem, except winxp just displays a stop error instead of bsod.

    Athlon XP 1700
    512mb ram
    64mb geforce2mx400
    via 4in1 onboard audio

Changing the values MonsieurEvil mentioned corrected the problem!  Thanks!

Update your Aureal Vortex drivers then at vortexofsound.com (as the company has gone out of business):
