How can the aliens open things that the marines would normally use a welder on?

They can't, but it would be cool if gorge healspray could open doors that needed a welder.

Most of the time it's in your best interest to leave those things unwelded. The exceptions are the few rts that must be welded open, and you can just go in the back way (vent).

Certain vents can be opened again. For example, the vent that leads to marine start on ns_eclipse can be opened if you hit the support bar with parasite. The catch? Said support bar can only be hit from the MS start side - you have to run/sneak past any defenses to get to it. This is the case wwith a good number of vents, but not all.

Weld points are usually welded for the benefit of the marines, so there not much point. Unless it's to reopen/undo the weld of course.

im pretty sure u can parasite/gorgespit weld points so that they take damage and must be welded again. Ive tried it, and it works certain times...

It is not a bug or exploit, it is part of the game.

It depends n the map. In 2.0 I know you could do that; I'm not positive about 3.0's version. I would get a screenshot of me parasiting open a vent, but I have no computer at the moment. (D:)

It is in fact part of the game, and is set by the mapper. Some vents allow it, some do not. The only vent I know for CERTAIN that has this property was the OLD OLD OLD 1.0x version of Bast. The weldable vent leading to marine start could be reopened with a single gorge spit on the crossbar. I don't recall it working with parasite though.

Once a vent has been welded shut and then reopened by an alien, it can never again be welded shut. It is open for the rest of the game.

Be advised many servers treat is as an exploit on ANY map, and will swiftly kick you if you're discovered to be doing it.
