What's the deal with them? Do they hold planned tutorials or just have chance encounters? Or do we need to sign up with them for a special session?

Chance encounters. There might be a Guide server set up somewhere with the name 'NSGuide' somewhere in it.
Also, you can go onto IRC and ask them there.
