<div class="IPBDescription">with the light brown hair</div>I was watching the OMFGAWESOME Stalkers video from E3 again last night and it got me thinking of how awesome their multiplayer could be:
What if, instead of the same old do-something-until-till-fraglimit-or-timelimt-hits formula they took advantage of the nicer parts of the game and instead made a game where the server was persistant (that is, the world constantly went on, it didn't stop and restart for any reason). That is very possible w/ the way STALKER is just one giant map, and since that's how the single player is supposed to work (complete with full day/night cycles) it would be dandy if MP worked this way too..
And instead of simply winning the round, you get to do a bit of.. erm.. i don't want to say roleplaying, but you get to be immersed into the setting and instead of trying to get the most frags or blow up x, you are simply trying to survive. That would also fit with the SP game's themes.
You know, you log off and your character just goes to sleep (or something) but when you log back the next day or so in it remembers what your health was, what weapons you had, what quests you completed if it has that sort of thing in multiplayer... That sorta thing.
It would definately be a terrific change of pace from the conventional online FPS.
Wouldn't that be swell?

Oh wells... we'll see when it comes.

....I AM WAITING. YOU DO AS I SAY BECAUSE I SAID IT
I'm not thriled about it.
Your idea is cool but I doubt that will happen. =\
Every FPS since the beginning of time has come out with physics... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I wasn't being specfic.
Advanced physics that are coming out in games being produced today. "Rag-doll" effects and realistic explosions, things like that.
But howabout instead of someone winning, howabout its just persistent PLAINLY? Where about maybe once a week, the server resets, at which time if you go into server specifics it'll tell you "Best Items" "Most Money" "Most Kills" "Best Overall Skill" and the such.
It'd kick **** <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
All in all it should be fun fast and very streamlined. I've been staying on this game like a chigger on a dog.

Oh. I'm oddly disapointed by the thread title...
Anyway, I agree that this game just has elements that make it quite different from other FPSs.
