<div class="IPBDescription">whee</div> A while ago I thought I heard news that Leiji Matsumoto wasn't going to finish this totally awesome series of animation/music videos. But it turns out I was wrong! I just watched it, and it's totally sweet. Super sweet. LM is a genius.

    ive seen one, it looked like a weird 70's anime where all the sound and dialog were replaced by a daft punk album. its interesting but not worth the hour it takes to watch.

    It looks too much like Galaxy Express 999, which makes me sad. Plus the main character is named like Skip or Sparky or some other kind of dog name. very odd.

    "wasn't going to finish" - by this, do you mean that there is more after the Daft Punk DVD (which has the album collection of music videos), or did you mean that you never knew the DVD was released (and that it has the whole, complete animation set)?

    And yes, it is indeed awesome, especially given how much I like Daft Punk. <3

    Me and my mate went to see Interstella 5555 at the cinema the other month. I have to agree, it's a great video to sit and chill to! I adore the 70s anime style, and it brings back lots of memories of old cartoons I used to see.

    We have a winner

    Leiji Matsumoto created the Galaxy Express, Space Battleship Yamato (Starblazers) and Captain Harlock series. So it's small suprise that the character designs are incredibly similar.

    For the unitiated. Interstella 5555 (The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem) is a movie set to the music of Daft Punk's incredibly popular Discovery albumn. There is no dialogue and tells the story of an Evil Producer who kidnaps an incredibly popular alien band and turns them into musical puppets. It all eventually comes to a head in a very awesome fashion.

    It's well worth seeking out.

    I myself am currently in the process of finding some place reliable that sells the Special Edition DVD. Comes with a slipcase and a bonus music CD.

    no, a couple years ago, i heard rumors that they weren't going to finish the rest of the music videos (by that time it was on harder better faster stronger) because of some tiff between leiji and daft punk.

    sorry, not a whole lot of piccehs on that page, but yeah.

    anyway, Leiji directed, but didn't do the character designs. My guess is that the animators/design dude made them look like the Harlock designs as a tribute.
