If you ever take that out on a trail may I make some suggestions, as a somewhat experienced mountain biker ?

Switch out the SRAM Speed Shifters and get some Shimano Rapid Fire shifters. And take off the protector things (Things on the end of the handle bar, I can't remember, I want to say ski bars).

Why ? Because Speed Shifters involuntarily shift, and it's awful, and the ski bar things have no real purpose, you will more comfortable and in control with them off and sometimes they can catch on to things causing bad falls to happen. Take off the kick stand too if you ever take it on a trail as well, it can cause a fall as well.

If you ever spent more money on a bike, the first thing I would suggest would be clipless shoes and pedals. I couldn't live without mine.

You should take it on some trails and see if you like Mountain Biking ^^.

I had a Schwinn Crosscut hybrid bicycle that I had help in "modding", and I did much of what Sirus advised. The speed shifters are awesome, they worked better than any shifters I've ever used.

The clip pedals and shoes are also great. I wouldn't want to ride without them. For the first few rides I fell a lot, since I had yet to learn how to remove my feet. After that, it became second nature, and my mobility improved greatly. Definitely a must-buy.

Although, I disagree with the "ski bars" as he put it - I found them helpful in easing back and arm pains during prolonged riding, but I can see what he's getting at.

As for the kickstand, if you're not going to remove it, perhaps using a non-acidic tape to keep it strapped to the frame would be advisable.

I highly recommend Bike Nashbar for any future purchases. Their clearance items often are really useful, the specials are great, even their everyday prices are competetive. I used them during the refit of my Crosscut, and was very pleased with their products and service. Mail order catalogs are available as well.
