no matter what I DL for NS and how many times I install I can't seem to get NS to work. I'm sure I'm just being dislecsic or retarded but I can never manage to get NS to work...my first and prolly biggest problem is that there's no exe...no icon to click to start NS and I can't get steam to DL it... ANY help would be GREAT

There is no executable file for NS, and the installer does not create a shortcut. You must run NS from steam.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Steam will not download NS. You download NS independently and then install it into the half-life or counter-strike folder under \Steam\SteamApps\<your email>. It should then appear in Steam's list of games.

hmm thanks...coulda swore I tried that...oh well we'll find out

    *didn't work*

I did what you said...and I reDLed the steam files that were listed under what I should do to get NS...I need you to tell me EXACTLY what to DL and where to install it because obviously the DLs instructions are wrong.

Taken from the ns download section and edited by moi:

    1. Download and install Steam ("Half-life Steam Installer" recommended, 211 megabytes).

    2. Run Half-life through Steam at least once, by loading up the training course. This is necessary to make sure NS will have the files it needs.

    3. Download and install 3.0 beta 1 (Jarhedz) (150 megabytes).

    4. Download and install the 3.0 beta 4 patch (Jarhedz) (38 megabytes).

    5. Download and install the beta 4a patch (Jarhedz) (4.4 megabytes).

If you follow these steps it should work...

However, if it doesn't work write down what happens! "I can't get it too work" won't help the people around here to help *you* . Try to be as specific as possible!

    Hope this helps!
Good luck and if it doesn't work, don't hesitate to post again, that's what the forum is for!

You must have forgotten B4a or something. Thats the error you get if you're running an older version.

If the dll differs then you don't have the same version as the server is running. Either the server is running a different version than 4a or you haven't installed 4a properly. This may seem as a dull answer to you by now, but if you do it in the given order, it should be working .

Pay Special attention to #5 and #7

QUOTE

1) Install Steam.

    2) Play HL atleast Once via Steam (just booting up the training mission will do).

    3) Download these 3 files:
    ns_install_v3_b1.exe
    ns_v30_b4_patch.exe
    ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe

    4) Install NS V3.0 Beta 1 (ns_install_v3_b1.exe) (This should auto install to steam\steamApps\your@email\half-life\nsp, if it does not, move the NSP folder there).

    5) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4 (ns_v30_b4_patch.exe) (point this at steam\steamApps\your@email\Half-Life\ do NOT include the NSP).

    6) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4a (ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe) (See * at bottom).

    7) Search your Hard drive(s) for folders named nsp.

    8) If you have more than one you messed up. Goto Step 3.

If you folow these steps properly you will not get client.dll or map.bsp errors.

If you are positive you have folowed them corectly then redownload the installer form a different location.

*There aslo seems to be a bug with, atleast some of, the 4a installers. Try pointing it at steamApps\your@email\ instead of steamApps\your@email\half-life

Note: This is a file stored on my desktop because I have to use it so many times.
