<div class="IPBDescription">Dumbest. Question. Ever.</div> This probably ranks up there with the dumbest questions ever, but I need an answer.

How do you make sprites?
Things I've tried:
1. Open a .spr in paint (didn't work)
2. Open a .spr in Irfanview (didn't work)
3. Open a .spr in Notepad (uhh, don't ask)
4. Search the forums (couldn't find a tutorial)
5. Try to figure it out (doing so right now)

So if you can give me a few simple steps to making sprites I would be very grateful.

Eh, fyi I want to make my own sprites for aliens.

    You need sprite view to open sprites and get the bitmaps out of them, then you just esit the bitmaps (makeing sure they are save in 256 colors) and recompile using sprite wizard. Both programs are in a sticky.

    Tks much, I knew there would be a simple solution. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    and they need to have the same palette (and iirc size, too) or the sprite won't compile <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Each frame can be a different size, but I can't imagine what purpose that could possibly serve. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Does anybody else use the sprite explorer? Cause in all these sprite help threads its always sprite wizard + sprite view, are they actually better for making the sprites?

    i've found SprView to be a temperamental ****. its more trouble than its worth imo. i still use Sprite Wizard to compile, because its no-nonsense, easy and quick. I don't think i've tried compiling in Sprite Explorer yet. chances are its better, but meh.

    *edit* Just tested out Sprite Explorer's New Sprite wizard, it seems broken. keeps giving errors and refuses to do anything much. I'll stick with Sprite Wizard kthnx <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> *end edit*

    Sprite Explorer is just that: a program with which to explore your sprites folder. While it has the basic functions of both Sprite Viewer and Sprite Wizard, it does a fairly poor job at mimicking. It messes up the colors and discards the palette when generating bitmaps, and it has a clumsy compilation process.

    Viewer is much better at generating bitmaps: the colors are perfectly retained, and so is the palette.
    Wizard is much better at compiling sprites, thanks to its simple and straight-forward process.
