I'm sure, like most mods, friendly fire will be an option for the server admin to toggle as he/she sees fit.

/me imagines some kinda of shield flickers every time a friend is hit while ff is off.

Wellllp... I think it's prolly toggleable in the normal setting, but on in the tourny setting.

i hope it's on, FF always puts a bit more tactics in your game, liek with FF on you cant shoot through your teammates to kill an enemy. Though i hope they pay attention, so that we don't get DoD situations with you getting killed more by your teammates then the enemy.

Im my opinion team damage being on would make the game for realistic and would require more teamwork out of both sides.......but i guess its the server's choice on what to do.

I've always thought of FF as one of those 'would be great in a perfect world'-features: In reality, I'm constantly voting for FF off because most of my teammates seem to be colorblind.

I'd strongly recommend to leave FF chooseable - especially as FF-evading technology is already developed IRL.

True but i would think that in this mod there isn't gonna be any more noobs and careless people. In my mind right now from what i read i think this is gonna actually be a mod based on teamwork, unlike other mods (CS) i dont think u can just run in kill the entire team and then round over. So i dont believe we'll be seeing anymore immature people that like shooting there own team because its fun. As i said in my past reply's its probably gonna be the servers choice on what they like to have on and off

the last thing I want to do is to let som n00b shoot me in the back and have like 25 hp. (I confess, it happens that I shoot exidently a bit at teammate in much dark or if he/she appears very suddanly, but it happens very few times)

People will always make mistakes, but I guess making mistakes is part of the realism... my vote, leave it up to the server.

And there will always be some people who will find a way of just rushing in, most likely servers full of newbies who don't understand the idea behind it.

maybe it is an idea to have a system that wont let you fire if a teammate is in front of you! this could be choosable next to FF on and FF off, its a bit more realistic and noone can TK. (like in HL you sometimes can't shoot a sientist (or am i wrong) or like in RTCW, but then when the no shot icon appears you CANT shoot.., some sort of auto-lock, and it is story-explainable. the turrets wont fire because of the watches, so why not the guns too?

Nope, you can shoot pretty much anything you want in either HL or RTCW. Its just if you do the game ends sometimes. I guess its politcally incorrect to shoot people not wearing either camoflage or Nazi armbands. Thats just the world we live in...

I personaly like FF. However, it can become the llama's favorite weapon in a matter of seconds.

I will try a few FF servers - untill it becomes unplayable.

funny how you guys talk about newbies like that just keep in mind that we're all NS-newbies...
• MartMart Origin of SUYF Join Date: 2002-02-26 Member: 248Members
I think we're talking about newbies as in those who haven't bothered reading up on the background to the mod, since most of us here know what the different alien classes are like and what kinds of things will be avalible.

personally i like ff, however, i believe that the option to have ff active should be up to whoever is hosting the server. All the other mods have it set up that way for a reason you know...

or we could just say that when a player hits another player in his own team, the damage is not reduced from the teammate but from the TW-er (option with ff-on ff-off no-shoot-ff)

InterFect0r, the comment on "n00b" in my post was more of a sarcastic remark that I assume a "llama" would say to someone else he was trying to #### off. Regardless if either are new to the game or not is irrelevant. People call other people newbies and/or n00bs because it is a form of put down and slander. Not saying that everyone who uses the term newbie is using it in such a manor, but I assume its nearly 98% put downs/slander then the 2% using it to define someones experience in a particular game.

In short ... I was using a hypothetical situation to prove my point (that not being able to fire if your team mate was in front of you = bad) ... it was a joke ...

Personally, I'm all for keep FF on, but giving harsher penalties for TKers. For example, say you shoot a teammate, he'll automatically yell "watch your fire" or something like that. If he persists, give him additional warnings, until he kills someone.

As a way of punishment for these TKers, I think a limited system should be allowed for the commander. Every time a player injures a teammate, the amount of HP he took from him goes on his record. When the record reaches a sizable number (Server variable?) the commander would be able to punish the player by taking away certain weapons and items, or by limiting certain abilities. To keep llamas from trying to get as much damage as they can without going over the limit, you could add a slight randomness to it to keep em guessing. Weapons with splash damage would have slightly less penalty due to their nature, but only when used in the presence of enemies, otherwise you're just being stupid (even if you are a newbie)

The TK score would also be clear to everyone on the team, so it would be obvious who TKs and who doesn't. The obvious abuse of this would of course be having an a$$hole commander, but then at least players could vote him off.

I think this system would weed out a lot of the Llamas, while providing a little leeway for the accidental shot or two. It also gives an option for the commander to use on players that really are abusing it, over people who just made one shot too many.

I like that idea, Fragmaster.

I'd like to have ff in NS but why not make ff damage you less than enemy fire. And that might even be more realistic as marine armour was probably developed to protect against human bullets in the first place.

That punishing system sounded cool, but aliens who only have melee weapons don't really have any excuse when they hurt team mates. Put the ff tolerance low for those short-range attack aliens.

I've played FF in DoD sometimes. I got to tell you it's a pain in %(^ to ID someone quickly enough in a "one hit kill" mod. Add to the fact that far off everyone looks the same. /me has killed more than one of his fellow snipers by accident and has had the same thing happen to him

In NS, it shouldn't be as hard since well has the spoon does Bob look like a marine?

While it is true that chances are aliens are not gonna kill themselfs but i know for a fact that marines will, due to the fact that the whole point of this mod is pretty much to scare the #### out of ya. I mean, saw you are cheeping through the fog and then out of the blue you hear a alien scream and then someonething starts to show in the fog, chances are you are gonna fire and poor joes brains and spilling out of his helment. Its gonna happen now and again but sooner or later people will learn so i vote for FF toggle.

Well, the server admin can choose 2 options, I think they are called public_mode and tournament_mode. Publick doesn't have FF on and torunamnet (a.k.a clan matches) does have it on

Whenever I'm playing in any game without FF on, I just think of it like this:

"Your player is far too skilled and intelligent to be firing at his own teammates."

But then again, I like the challenge and realism of players taking damage regardless of what team it came from. The penalty system sounds like a great idea, might take some extra time to implement and perfect though. I just think that a sound played every time you injure a teammate would get annoying quickly, perhaps just a text message (as with most other games) and maybe a special sound that plays only when a player is penalized for excessive friendly fire or team-killing.

I think FF ist necessary, but otherwise it isn't realistic.
Fragmasters idea sounds well, but perhaps the following is more simply as a Fragmasters suggestion:

I think in order to avoid deliberate continual TK from f...ing team members, the server should count the TK for each teammate and if the counter reach a number fixed by the admin before, the TK member should be banned from the server.

tisk, tisk read what Flayra said 'bout tricking the filter.I think it was in the announcements part.
And as for you're idea, i think that it's already in, well in cs it is, in cs if you kill 2 many teammates you get kicked by the console, same with hostages, kill 2 many of them and you're gone.
• KassingerKassinger Shades of grey Join Date: 2002-02-20 Member: 229Members, Constellation
Long thread when considering it will probably end up pretty much as CS FF. A server side option with auto kick for tkers.
