Wonder what happens if the ns team do a contest guessing what BUS is.

I always thought it would be nice if RTs represented map control. Like really, what are these towers that appear to be sucking res out of the ground really doing? Alien RTs don't have big pipes attached running back to the hive. Marine RTs don't have little power plugs on the back that you attach your armory to. It would make more sense, game wise, if they represented control over the map. Nano-gridlock at work. The towers are actually harvesting the res, but also exerting control over the nanites or the bacteria in a given area.

Wouldn't it be classy if you couldn't drop anything in a given area (as determined by mapper) around an RT, until that RT had been built for your team? Say, each res nozzle had it's own zone of influence that reached to the border of the next node's zone. And meds/ammo/structure, chamber, hive dropping only worked within those zones. It would turn NS on its head and make it completely about territory control.

Of course, this couldn't be the BUS, as it would require a complete remake of all the maps with new res zones coded into the map, not to mention a lot of recoding of the game. But it is a neat idea I've had bouncing around and this seemed as good a place to mention it as any.

That would make mappers mad, unless it was a really simple and quick fix.

Thats what we need, something to encourage rambos, unless it was somehow done to give points for teamwork...

meh...

does co_ count as a system?

maybe its something like where you can evolve/degrade yourself into many nanites/bacteria and contribute to your teams success on ns maps by fighitng at the nanite size lvl instead of shooting and biting.

weird.

Hmm well now that the NS team has found out that they can not fix the hitbox bug themselves it shouldn't be too much longer until beta 5 is released. Then we get NS on the 'My Games' list, and get instant auto-updates!

Remember the unpopular NS 2.01c, where gorges could only build within a certain distance of the hive and RTs. That could not have just been a balance decision. Flayra was likely trying to add another system into NS. Nanites indeed...

From what I've heard about it this version had a lot of support, but some VERY vocal opposition, and so further testing of the idea was quickly abandoned for the good old 'rush out and kill everything' style NS we've all grown used to. I'd love to see how a version of NS that was all about territorial control would play out.

unfortunately, in pub play, it would play out SLOWLY...... rines would rambo, die, the commander would grow more gray hair, and the aliens would dominate the map while 'rines turtled most likely.............. kinda like most pubs already are.....

There was nothing of that nature in 2.01c, the change Maian is referring to is the inability to gestate into anything outside the radius of a hive. It basically crippled alien early game expansion. It didn't help that the build also came with a host of other alien nerfs like movements not warping to building hives, and lower skulk HP.

That's what it was. I was wondering what Maian was referring to.
• MaianMaian Join Date: 2003-02-27 Member: 14069Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Gold
Woops, forgot the specifics of that build, but I knew it has something to do with some radius around the hive restriction. I remember all the "WTH"s when I played it for the first time and the forum outcry, so it was definitely unpopular. Personally, I thought it sucked but it showed promise.

The Bus is going to be the biggest thing EVER implemented in the game, and everyone will like it. It will completely balance the game, make each game exciting...

I'm just guessing, I hope the bus does something like that.

From all the whisperings, and from what I gather about the new dev's, as supernorn suggested, the BUS system is just a ranking system.

"Why should I weld u n00b?!11one If i kill more skulks I'll be higher up on the BUS ololol" etc...

Once again, a ranking system wouldnt be too big of a change to adjust to.
• semipsychoticsemipsychotic Join Date: 2003-07-09 Member: 18061Members
It also would not fufill any purpose in NS: if it was a stats system at all, it would focus on logging team stats and weapon usage in order to fix balance problems and plug holes extremely quickly, especially in combination with steam.

Of course, it wouldn't be all too hard to adjust to, so that idea is out the window.
