I've got the processor, RAM and HD space. I wonder how mobility GFX cards will handle it - more namely a Mobility Radeon 9700 128Mb (the card that I'm hoping to get in my new laptop.)

I always thought geforce 3 was the minimum(which is what I have), was there ever any doubt?

Thats the minimum? Ouch. Glad I recently upgraded.

while those are 'low', there are plenty of people who are still running at less than a ghz and with gf2 or lesser cards (or equivalents, like the onboard video gfx of intel mobos)

so, i doubt that it will be that successful in making inroads to non-gamers.

Don't underestimate the draw of the name. If someone decides to 'start' gaming, this will be from now on the bare minimum.

Personally, I'm above each requirement by a fourth to a third. Let's hope that's enough for 'medium' settings

actually, iirc a 2.4+ ghz and 9800pro are what's required for *edit* decent fps at *edit* 'medium' detail. i.e. low AA, low AF, 1024x768.

@'draw of the name': possibly, but I can't see that non-gamers will go through the hassle of upgrading just to get into a game that they've never played the ancestors of.

But how well? I would hope at least medium settings @UXGA (16000x1200) resolution and a decent 50-60 FPS.

unfortunately, the fx 5200 isn't much better than a gf3, if at all, so get used to low detail settings

If you have a 2-2.4ghz processer and 512mb-1gb RAM, then about just under medium quality i'd believe, as the MR9700 is just faster than a 9600 in theory.

Excellent. The specs of the system I'm getting if my refund goes through are 3.2 Ghz P4, 1 gig RAM and a 7200 RPM HD so I should do fine.
