<div class="IPBDescription">Omc look :P</div> Hey time for an upgrade. My 900mhz 256 sdram aint cutting it for me anymore so I'm turning it in for one of these: <a href='http://www.powernotebooks.com/specs/Sager/4790specs.php' target='_blank'>Rawr</a> I picked out the "force" version which include 3.2ghz,1k ram.

Tell me what you think <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->. I'm far from the hardware know it all so if you have any bits of information I should be aware of dont hesitate to comment. (Havnt purchased yet, prolly will in 1/2 days).

The only things i'm thinking about editing is the harddrive and adding a wireless lan connection.

<img src='http://www.powernotebooks.com/images/4780/back.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Ps: The screen is the best thing I have ever seen. It kicks my current desktops 10 fold. Unlike most laptops this wont look wierd while looking at it from the side <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Ugh a laptop?

    Hope you get it insured.

    On drop and that thing could be as useful as a very expensive paperweight.

    Awesome! Can we get some specs?

    My laptop is dying for the 5th time and I'm considering getting a sager notebook as well.

    The spec should be included... oh wait wrong link... *updated* should have the specs now.

    Btw: It comes standard with a 1 year warranty which can be extended to 3 years although I dont think I will extend it, if nothing goes wrong the first year.

    Niiiiiice. I'm looking at sager's non-widescreen version of that; the 5690.

    If you want to use a laptop as a laptop, you can't get an amd. To quote a friend:
    "<LaserBeams> AMD laptops go BURNINATE LAP"

    Actually, OLD AMD laptops would have that problem. As in, the K6-3 series. The newest ones (especially the Ath64s) run easily cool enough for laptop use.

    Plus, their higher efficiency translates to increased battery life. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I had my friend look into the intel vs amd thing and he said it was viable to get either. If you guys have any statistics on it, it would be helpful.

    Anyways centrino would be the way to go if I was worried about burnination, although they are more expensive and have smaller lcds.

    That's the first laptop I've ever seen w/ a number pad...

    Very nice indeed. GJ. :D

    as far as statistics go, I have none, but most of those are just as biased as testimonials anyway, so here is my testamonial:

    I used to use a lot of AMD cpu's, but my last upgrade I got a boxed P4 instead, and I swear it was so much better of an experience I'll never go back to crappy AMD cpu's. With AMD cpu's are slower (I don't care what anyone else has to say to the contrary) and are much, much more unstable (i.e. crashes left and right). This P4 is fast, cool (which leads to more stable), and rock solid stability. It is a lot more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Go with Intel if you can afford it.

    Especially for a laptop. I've heard that AMD's mobile chips aren't uber good. Can't tell ya where I heard it... But I did.

    Doomnub, the problem is that my Ath64 running at 2.2GHz can run circles around a P4 overclocked to 4GHz. Plus... I still can overclock mine, to pull further into the lead. ^_^

    And again. The 'amds suck for laptops!' crowd is the same kind of people who insist that nVidia is faster. Both are looking at the halcyon days of their favorite company's past, and trying to will it into being the future. While the other guys have already caught up and surpassed. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Numpad for the win.
    The main reason i don't want a laptop, is that i couldn't play games on it, because i always use the numpad. It just seems more natural to me.

    2,4,6,8 for moving
    5 for reload
    + for use, Ins for jump, and enter for duck

    Nice looking laptop <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    If he got an IBM Thinkpad he could throw it around... I don't know about this one, though

    The General Advice I got about laptops is "don't get one if you'll think you'll drop it."

    im building a computer, what do any of you think the best motherboard i can buy is?
  • CabooseCaboose title = name(self, handle) Join Date: 2003-02-15 Member: 13597Members, Constellation
    Depends on what kind of processor you're going to use.

    But for a Athlon 64 get the ASUS A8V Deluxe

    Talesin suggested this on another forum, and it's blatently stolen from him.
