The Marines have the flashlight. Well when the aliens press F, all their allies get brighter. The Marines' downside to the flashlight is that it gives away your position easily. I was wondering, what's the downside the the Alien's?
The downside is that it has no upside? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Yep, that's basically it. A marine flashlight does have the effect of showing you things in dark corners. (not very well, but at least somewhat) The alien flashlight does absolutely nothing worthwhile. The most useful thing I've found on the alien flashlight is that it makes structures see-through, so in hives that it's easy for a silly rambo to hide behind (archiving on hera, viaduct on nothing, etc.) you can tell if a marine is there without having to actually run up to him. This is so pointless as to be almost useless, but it remains the most useful thing I've thought of to do with the alien flashlight.
i find the alien flashlight useful when trying to find where the heck the gorge put the mvmt chamber in the hive <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Back in 1.0x, the third sensory upgrade was Advanced Hivesight, not focus. This made every structure and player glow, even the marines. That was handy. With that gone, the alien flashlight is virtually useless.
