I read somewhere...
hey guys i just read this interesting DoD forum thread and it wrote that the map DoD_Dog1 and DoD_Overlord were masterpeices cuz they sed they pushed hl engine to the limit...now i find those maps tiny..and by the looks of the ns maps it looks there gonna b 19 times bigger...

here's a quote from 1 guy : "The size of an HL map is limited by the HL engine. Also the HL engine is not made for big open maps like the ones in MOH and such. It is made for small rooms connected by corridors. Overlord and Dog1 are both mapping masterpieces, and it is amazing the respective mappers were able to pull it off."

now thinking about the rooms n coridors...but its still very big right...

Well...if you think there are problems with the playability of the maps...would we be a day away from release?

From a mappers perspective Dog1 and Overlord pushed the HL engine rightfully so. When you take in to consideration all the brush based entities, point based entities, viewable areas(open space) seen from other areas of the map, and lighting that contribute to long compile times the creators did wonderful things. Note all above that was mentioned are limited for the HL engine. As for the NS maps, from what I have seen, they are quite large, but not in the same respect as wide open areas. Don't expect to round an NS map in less than 20 seconds. They are quite large.. maybe a mapper could fill us in on some details?

BTW: All official NS maps had to keep to strict guidelines to keep them playable on a wide variety of machine specs. Despite their size(in any style or element) they are very playable
