60 Fps Max Bug :(

<div class="IPBDescription">:(</div> READ THIS FIRST :

1) fps_max set at 100

2) tried the windows refresh rate fix, the website is old and the last update was from 2003 so it wouldn't work

3) I tried setting the override rate in the nvidia box. Besides saying something like "monitor out of sync" and needing to be restarted, it did nothing for the problem.

Basically, my fps is stuck on maximum of 60. It never goes over that. My video card is a geforce 2 mx 440, and I have the latest drivers. Please help.

I have basically the same card and I had the same issue. To correct this I created a "userconfig.cfg" file, using Notepad, and added file to my nsp folder. I now get 85 fps (max my monitor will handle). Here are my settings in the file:

    fps_lan "85"
    fps_max "85"
    fps_modem "85"

You can change the 85 to a number that your monitor can handle.

edit: Nope, doesn't work. Even on the first screen ( the server-friends-options one), I get no higher than 60 fps.

I'm not the most compter savvy person around so this probably isn't the best/most efficient way to do this, but it got the job done for me. Firstly, right-click on the desktop and click on Properties, then the settings tab, then the advanced button. Open up the graphics card tab and click on the 'change resolutions' menu and test to see how high you can set your refresh rate before your monitor cuts out, (Which was 85Hz for me). If you use a different resolution when ingame then change your normal windows resolution to that before testing it.

Next, download the <a href='http://www.nvrt.org' target='_blank'>NVRefresh tool</a> and open it up, (I know you said you did this, but it couldn't hurt to try again. It worked for me). Click on the 'Advanced mode' button and ignore the warning box that appears. Find the resolution that you use and change the refresh rate to match you monitor's max. Click Apply and restart your PC. You should be good to go. (Note: if you accidently set you refresh rate too high, start windows up in safe mode to set it to a lower number)

<- running Win XP home with geforce FX 5200 gfx card.

    Hope that helps.

You shouldn't need the refresh tool IF you are using using the latest nvidia driver. I also followed the following:

You will gain a good performance boost by pointing NS to your video card's openGL drivers. Here is how to do it:

Step 1.) Go to the Windows\System32 directory and look for your opengl.dll

If you're using a nvidia card the nvoglnt.dll is the right one.
For Ati cards it's the atioglxx.dll.
And for the rest the opengl32.dll.

Step 2.) Copy that file to your: Steam\SteamApps\email@email.com\counter-strike\gldrv directory.

Step 3.) Open the drvmap.txt in that directory and change the text to the following:

    Default Default
    gldrv/nvoglnt.dll OpenGL Driver

Edit: That is for CS, change the counter-strike to halflife directory. Steam\SteamApps\email@email.com\half-life\gldrvdirectory. Also the latest card driver comes with the refresh tool that Pest is refering to.

Thanks. I succesfully changed it to 85 ( my monitors max), and with the boost, it's staying somewhere above 60 most of the time.

    Thanks again.
