Jeskola Buzz

For all your music-making needs...
http://www.buzzmachines.com/

Jeskola Buzz is a music program that just happens to be absolutely free. You get the whole deal, all plugins available, no registering, no blah. It is the best program I have downloaded this summer. As the title suggests, it's basically a program that lets you make music from almost scratch. I mean, this sucker has freakin infinite possibilities.
I know a few of you guys use/used to use Buzz, so if you have, go ahead and post your praise of the program here.
And to guys that have no experience with Buzz who want to try it...It takes time to get a hang of it. It seems ridiculously complex at first, but it's not. It takes a few days of Trial and Error to "get it," and for the love of Jewish Buddah, read the tutorial!
If you are interested in getting into the music scene and are just beginning, I might not recommend this to you, but if you do try it and stick with it, you'll have a blast with it (or at least I did).

[edit] to clarify, I have used both fruity loops and reason, and I'm trying to get a gauge on how well this stacks up. The whole 'its free' thing helps out already...
D) All Of The Above And More.
Everything you will ever need, in a nice neat bundle. And in addition, if there's something you want that's not on the program, you can probably find it on their website for download.
[edit to respond to your edit] While I have never used Reason, I do know it pwns Fruity Loops.

IE, it supports plugins?

Now, any idea where I can find a basic, no-nonsense tutorial to teach me the ropes? I've looked around but had no such luck.

I think you hit F1.
Can anyone answer my question? I think I'll download it either way
I'm pretty sure the answer to all of your questions are in the Buzz FAQ that is on the website. And if it isn't there, it can direct you to a message board for help. If youre looking for an easier guide, I'm sure there's one you can find on the site.
Yes, it is fairly complicated, but like I said, give it time! Experiment with things! If there's something you don't understand, mess around with it! And if you do something bad like putting the Audio Output to a software that doesn't have any drivers, Jeskola even comes with a Fix application that resets all the settings to default.
Please use the tutorial first thing. Just go to File, Open, and open "Tutorial.bmx"

/sulk The answer to my question wasn't there.

Dude. I had no idea what that meant either, but I'm guessing it meant "enter some notes." Which isn't too difficult once you know which keys are what notes.
It is definitely worth the trouble, man. I'd show some stuff I made today within 15 minutes of messing around, but there's the whole "not having a host for my stuff" thing...
Technically, it is aimed more towards the electronic stuff, but with the right machines and plugins, yes. Any type of music.

You make your own loops, drums, everything. So if you find the insrumental samples for the style you want, sure, you can make anything. Or you can take a piano or guitar riff recorded to wav, and throw it in, put effects on it, pretty much anything you want with the right plugin.
Anyways, that's a little something that shows some of what Jeskola Buzz can do. The song is called "The Drums" made by "The Fat's Saobobah", aka "jewpinthethird" for those of you who play FFR. Enjoy it!
Edit: mkay, hold on sec, gotta figure out a solution (unless one of you can provide a host that doesn't use signup crap).
Edit: Got it. After going through three sites of free mp3 hosting crap I decided to do this instead:
Go to Flash Flash Revolution.
On the left-hand side you will see a Username and Password login.
For Username, type in "NSForumMember"
For Password, type in "flayra"
Check the "Remember Me" thing.
Click "Let me in"
Once you are logged in, try the link and you should be able to download it.
*Whew*
So, you were hasty and didn't set the buzz.exe's compatiability mode to "Windows NT"? This is a known fix for WinXP/2000 startup crash, and IIRC stated in the FAQ too. Also, running Nvidia's NView is a bad idea while Buzzing.
And nobody whine about the bugs. The program's source was lost quite some time ago and the programmer hasn't been able to do any patch work on it. An american guy decompiled it and is making his own version, Buzzle, which is supposed to be Buzz but without any odd bugs. It's in the alpha stage now, but looks promising.
Anyway, about buzz:
I've been an avid Buzzer since 1998 and I love the program. Armed to the teeth with all the extra gear downloaded from BuzzMachines, I've got just about anything I could have ever asked for. Buzz really beats the living **** out of clumsy, more style than content programs like Reason. Don't believe me? Okay, find any other sequencer that can process this kind of an effect chain in real time while recording it to wav, and simultaneously taking ASIO input from a microphone, processing the sound and outputting it both to speakers and the wav being recorded:

And yeah, with the proper tools there's no reason this little marvel can't be used for a live show.
But what's this? Bass 3 only gets a Delay?
Anyways, you got any tunes to share? I'm not getting much luck over here...
Ya, sorry its a bit rediculously complicated. Technically its supposed to be a mix made music sharing comunity, but they just happen to convieniently host MP3 files for you (they reject anything but music you made, but other than that...)

Tunes to share? Here you go. Both are unfinished, though the IDMish piece was premastered before converting to MP3.

This is a little something in the vein of Somatic Responses, though not quite as complicated. The song lacks an intro, its progression is a bit chunky at times, and it's plagued by an incredibly cheap main snare sound, but I do think I did a good job on mixing and producing.

I'm working on this one at the moment. I need to redo the beats so they'd sound more aggressive and less traditional. All the harsh noise instruments are actually heavily processed Padsyns.

Thanks, mate.
And about the chord wizard, I have absolutely no idea. I've forgotten everything I ever learned about music theory back when I was a kid - heck, I can't even read notes anymore. That's why my method is to go with the flow, and if I need a melody, create it by fooling around in the tracker patterns. The bassline is always the one that directs the entire song's movement, so that's the one to tune the rest of your stuff to.
But the way I'm going now, as is quite evident by the song I'm working on, is based on the following philosophy: "**** melodies. Pure noise is much more gratifying and the body responds to it better."
