Pretty fun actually, most games these days want you to get in, and rush the enemy base, having everything be over in what, 10 minutes <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yep.
And I've also never had it crash.
And the great thing about this game- even on the fast setting, it takes a hour or so to get everything to modern day stuff(at which you still don't have extra stuff- most of the time I don't get a stable until I can build tanks).
Great game, but it further makes me acknowledged my suckiness in RTS.
I mean, my squad get obliterated everytime I'm a commander. I couldn't finish Red Alert on the easiest setting.
I played RoN on the easy setting, figured the AI is pathetic. I bumped it up to normal, and... my troops got squished. Still love the game though.
I wished there's RTS for Dummies for sale out there. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
w00t, I just bought this game yesterday. I'm gonna play for a while, then I'm probably gonna get the expansion. I love the Commando units; I love icing the enemies generals with the sniper rifle. Yes, and I am sucky with RTS's as well, but there's only one way to get better...

Mine has also never crashed....Except when I was trying to debug the afforementioned Europe during the 1600s map (it was just one like once I found it too, aha <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).
Anyone want to try to play multiplayer? I'm not exceptionally good, and my multiplayer didn't seem to connect well back at school (except on LANs) but I want to play against people <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ...how about all the people that just bought it?
The best age is gunpoweder/pre industrial, i love how my 1 shot rifle guys pwn those silly, way behind javelin throwers <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I hate modern and info stage because thats when things start to get rushed, so many more aspects of units come into play etc.
I love making inf divisions with like 20 groups of the basic fighting infantry unit. then just take over everything in my way.
I also Think Nukes are cheap, it takes about a minute to make them, and they devistate everything <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> I do like the apocalypse countdown though, so it doesnt get ****d or else everyone dies
Sorry for the big ol' bump, but I was wondering what everybody's name for Rise of Nations Internet play is, just so we could keep an eye out for each other.
I always use UltimaGecko - although if this requires a net passport or something, it might be something else - like SturmGecko, or MTSR or Ultima[Something I don't remember]...
...I haven't tried online since being at the university, so I forget how it works.
...if I just throw in my name it's either going to be UltimaGecko or SturmGecko.

Personally, that annoyed me a bit; on harder levels, they get resource stacking, as well as becoming smarter (supposedly). They also seem averse to using nukes, for some reason.

I learn RTSs very slowly. The trick in RoN (against the comp anyway) is to make sure you have a sound economy. Don't build cities just for the sake of it; you have forts if you need to hold the border back (at 2 red, anyway).
Make sure you have at least 2 barracks, stables and siege factories when you're preparing for battle. Otherwise you'll be swarmed. Granary research helps as well. Generals are important. Keep a scout with your main force, so you can blast that pesky spy when you hear the bribing sound.
Don't be afraid to build wonders.
Try playing as the Mayans. Mines give you gold as well as metal, and you're soon swimming in the stuff. That means you can buy all the other resources (except knowledge).
I'm a newbie playing conquer the world as egyptians on moderate difficulty, and so far my strategy is to put off building an army til the enemy makes their first attack, then build 3 barracks, a siege and a stable and set them all on infinite production... surprisingly, your economy can usually keep up with it if most of your resources are +350 or so... I waypoint all my military buildings to my general/patriot so new units automatically go into battle and join the group of the attack force...
my achilles' heals are protecting my siege units (I'm surprised the AI is usually smart enough to flank em) and protecting my waterways... 2 docks set on infinite production and a proper rally point sometimes helps with the latter... but I do hate it when I'm attacking my enemy across a river and I'm wondering why my reinforcements aren't coming... and then I check the water and see that my transports are being sunk ten at a time :x
Wonder Wins Suck - Won't play quick with wonder wins possible
You can do all 4 of the final upgrades, just they go up in price after you research others <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
