Canesword

Shouldn't this be illegal?
Hey - long time, no see and whatnot.

Anyways, I just went down this weekend to a nearby City - and I was checking out an interesting stroe that sold Pipes, Swords... and other delights, and I came across a Walking Cane.

It was made of Bamboo, and somehow appealed to me. Then, when the clerk showed me it could pulled out into a very long, shiney and lethal sword - I knew I had to get it.

Compared to the other bladed weapons in the store - this one was REALLY cheap... ($60 CDN) and REALLY sharp for a "Decorative" sword.

Anyways - what I wanted to ask is - should these things be illegal? I mean - it's considered a concield weapon, is it not?

And it even has a little rubber tip on the end of the cane - as if it was encoraging you to walk around with it.

But don't get me wrong - I don't mean to sound like a nay-sayer - but this thing is just SO cool! And yet... it kind of worries me when I look and elderly people now, heh.

Anyways, here's a picture.
And by the way - the thing thats holding it is me, Sid.

Be afraid, be VERY afraid.

    Nope.
As long as I go to school with 3 knifes hidden (shoulder-halfter, left leg, and a small one in the belt) and no one saying anything against this such a "cute" thingy doesn't really scream "OMG BAN ME!!!", from my point of view.

Really? Bad-****. It's a weapon, no doubt, but you can still carry it around. I believe there's a city in the US where you have to have a loaded FireArm on you. Something along those lines, I don't remember.

Personally, I think people would be more afraid of you, who obviously just jumped out of a time machine from the 70's!

All teasing aside, my question to you is why do you need a walking stick? I think there's a good chance the average cop is not going to pay much attention to you, except to stare at you oddly for carrying a cane/walking stick around with you on flat ground.

The thing you have to worry about it actually brandishing the weapon - once you pull it out, you have to be prepared to use it. Or get caught by the police and have it taken away, hehe.

Yes, infact I have stepped out from the 70's. Disco is not dead, suckas.

Infact - it's not a suprise to wake up with a few messages from the 70's on my Answering machine, asking for his hair back.

    I usually delete them.

    Anyways - why'd I buy it?

'Cause it's damned cool, thats why! XD

    Nope.

Anyway, it is cool. If it's illegal, then it's ten times more cooler.

But don't bradish it in public, or be prepared. Be VERY prepared.

I carried a bamboo staff nearing the end of highschool just to swing it around (outdoors only) for exercise.

There was a teacher who admired what I was doing, but said that I should better check with the vice-principal to makes sure things were okay. The vice-principal gave the thumbs down...

HOWEVER, after the regular schedule of classes was over, I decided to fight the power (not really...) and bring it anyway. During exams, I was walking down the hall carrying my staff, and the vice-principal, along with a whole bunch of other teachers, walked towards me from the opposite direction. The vice-principal just said 'hi' to me, and we just continued on. Guess he realized that I wasn't out to harm anyone with it.

    or so he thought...

Well, it turns out, he thought right.

A loser in my class left his black duffel bag on the elevator one day. Some loser phoned 911 because he thought it was a bomb... was pretty funny watching said loser get hell, especially when the bag was opened and contained various assorted knifes/daggers (the guy took kung-fu). He wasn't expelled, but he got hell for it.

Yes, sword-canes are illegal. Including to sell, IIRC. They're considered a concealed weapon, and may receive an aggravated charge given that swords are illegal to carry (any knife with a blade over six inches, or with both sides of the blade sharpened).

That's speaking US laws, California most specifically. I know this 'cuz I went in to try and get a 'Conceal and Carry' permit from the police department, and got an earful in return. :b

That's because they can completely [pierce most bodyparts], right?

6 Inches is about 1/2 to 1/3 the average person's body width, with the heart being within those 6 inches... in nearly every direction.
