any good? worth a rental?
I was at Funcoland today and I got to play a bit of Spider-Man 2. It was pretty fun, and seemed to be pretty open ended (whcih I heard it was).

Any of you guys played it? What are your thoughts? Worth the price of a rental at least? And are there any big spoilers? Cause I haven't seen Spider-Man 2 yet...

(For clarification, I'm talking about the supposedly pwn Console version, not the stupid PC version that's meant for little kids and isn't the same game)

i rented it...its fun, but pretty short, has some replay value, just swinging around the city, i say it would last you a week.

Get it, DOOM. It's awesome. Web-slinging and combat are both "minute to learn, lifetime to master"-type affairs, and they're absolutely tons of fun. The story and voice-acting are both solid, and the technology powering it is top-notch (for instance, the map is actually just zooming out straight up from the real world to a height of 2km -- you can even still see cars in the streets!). The story is a little short if you just fulfill the chapter objectives, but there are a huge number of side-goals, Tony-Hawk-style.

My only gripe with the game is the lack of street signs; I want to find my sister's old apartment building! ^^

Just got the game yesterday. I am the Drunken Spiderman, thank you very much. If the citizens of New York looked up to see me crashing into buildings like I do in the game, they'd have someone put me out of my misery. Just one more thing to perfect, I guess.

Whenever I go to the big overview map and look at all the blue star challenges, I remember why the game has such good replay value.

Oh yeah, the voice acting is actually very good. Character animations are a little sketchy, but you can just ignore that.

And any game with an "All Your Base" reference = teh win.

    Hmm..

so are there any big spoilers for the movie in the game, cause I haven't seen the movie yet. And I'm a Spider-Man comic nub so I already know nothing of what should happen anyway.

Wasn't Gamestop known as Funcoland, back in the day?

    Well...

There was Gamestop, Babbages, Software Etc, and Funcoland. Gamestop eventually bought up the other 3. Good thing there is EB otherwise Gamestop would have a complete monopoly on game stores...

Yeah, the AYB reference was funny as hell. ^^

The game definitely has some spoilers for the movie, so you should see the movie first. However, the game plot doesn't really have much to do with the movie's (so they could fit in more supervillains). It's still a good quality game, it gets a little repetitive but it's most definitely worth a rent at the very least.

No, it's the randomness that makes it so hilarious. I'd ruin it if I told you where it was. It's just like out of nowhere *insert character name* says it, so hysterical.

The All Your Base referance was good, but the Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness quote was better

the story is short, the webswinging/wallwalking/wallrunning/getting from point a to point b is OMGPWN

also, there may be a freakazoid reference in there too (think "wooooosh" while doing some low level swinging ... greatest. animation. evar.)
