    Avoid, it's a rubbish card.

Honestly, scrape together 10-20 more bucks and you can afford the excellent Radeon 9600 Pro.

    You need it in a hurry? I would save me money for a 9800pro <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I can go another 20 dollars, but the main reason is because I don't like spending so much money on something I want, knowing that I should keep it for things I need.

But I need an absolute answer of whats the best for 100-120 dollars as I want to make sure that I didn't waste my money.

Radeon 9600 Pro. Or, if you can, try to get a 9500 Pro, which is even a tad faster than the 9600 Pro. 9500 Pro > 9600 Pro.

Well... you don't know what he has, even a lesser card may be worth it.

Also, notice tha ATi suggestions? Yea, stay away from nvidia...

I have a 9000 Pro that I've had for over a year, I got it for $130 when it was newish.

I did find this tho. I have a 9200 in my mom's PC (128 tho) and It works pretty damn good. It's a connedt 3d one tho. If you can scrap up the $30 more, the 9600 is a good buy IMO.

Right now, I have a Geforce MX 440 64 mb AGP 8x. It runs pretty decently, but in the near future I'm going to need to upgrade.

I had that exact same card and got a 9600 Pro like these guys said. The difference is superb! Also, it supports "pixel shaders" which a lot of games nowadays are beginning to use (Splinter Cell: PT, GC 2, HL2 being examples).

I've got a GeForce, but right now, ATi is shattering the gaming world's expectations. Get the Radeon 9600- in fact, I can link you to the perfect spot:
    <a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-240-015&depa=0' target='_blank'>http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-240-015&depa=0</a>
$128 bucks. Shouldn't take much longer to get it, and remember- shipping on Newegg is free thanks to Fedex Express. So 128 bucks is 128 bucks.

Don't be ridiculous. $120 or (probably) less will net you a Radeon 9600 Pro that will run even Half-Life 2 comfortably. It's the best card out for the price, Sirus, and you'd be wise to snap one up.

I have one myself and it's not all that great.. and for 80 more you can snap one that is twice
as good, evitable it will be a better investment, both in the short and long run..

Maybe I will just wait for the 9800 Pros to drop in price ? I don't know. Regardless of money spent, only when first getting a computer would I consider anything as an investment. Technology grows so fast it hardly matters what you get, especially if I'm just getting a video card.

BTW, if you trade in your card, you can get $50 off the 9800 Pro or X800 too if you're daring enough <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

but he currently has a nvidia card.

i'd go for the 9600 pro. as you said, technology is growing so quickly it doesn't really matter.
