The Spider-man 2 Thread
<div class="IPBDescription">Post your comments in here</div> Just got back from seeing Spiderman 2. Loved it. A heap of character development and some great action. Quite a few surprises as well, at least for someone like me who has had minimal contact with the comics.

8.july europe start.
Well, they did show that in the trailer, so it's really no spoiler to anyone who's watched it.
And for me, I haven't been able to watch it because Spider-Man 2 hasn't hit HK yet. Hopefully I will get to watch it sometime.
And for those wondering, GG == Green Goblin.
EDIT : Ack me now confuzzled! Is it Hobgoblin or Green Goblin?!
***POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING***
Dr. Curt Connors is in it as Peter's lecturer at university and a close friend of Doc Oc. I believe he becomes the Lizard-man. As you may recall Eddie Brock is mentioned in Spiderman 1, and whilst I can't recall his name coming up in Spiderman 2, John Jameson is in the movie as an astronaut. Which to me sounds like they're setting the scene for Venom to arrive in the 3rd movie.
Specuation on various net sites seems to indicate that Vin Diesel turned down the role of Venom and The Rock is being asked to do it. There was also some strange rumours about Christian Bale (Equilibrium, American Psycho, the new Batman) coming in as Carnage.
I'm going to see this when it comes out

SPOILER ALERT: If you want to know what happens in the comics but not yet in the movies =O
GG's son tries to get revenge on spider man after what spiderman "murdered" his father. so He picks up the FAMILY tradition and becomes the next Green Goblin
Jameson the astronaut brings back the symbiote aka Venom
Eddie Brock becomes venom
Curt Conners = Lizard Man
edit: Christian Bale would look crazy enuff to be Carnage

Fantastic movie. Almost too big, really, but in retrospect they grew the characters SO much. Octavius was awesome.
As for the third one... when they had that scene with Harry at the end, I said to my roommate "looks like they're setting up the third movie to have more than one villain." IMO they can't use the Green Goblin again, even if he does have that HOT NEW GLIDER that they showed in Norman's secret lab. They can't use Dr. Connors (Lizardman), either, because the origin story is the same as Octavius' -- a too-brilliant scientist consumed by his own creation.
In that case, Venom seems the perfect villain for #3, especially considering that any Venom story would start with the symbiote and Spidey in the black suit (/me drools).

Can't wait to see this one, in the meantime though.
* another spoiler people *
I don't care to see the green gobby. I WANT VENOM. and sheesh. they had Jameson's son in there. All we gotta do now is send him up to space and come back with black goo. .... omg. i want to see Spidey in the venom costume so bad. Man he was incredible with the symbiote. And honestly i wouldn't mind having the lizard for the next villian, but Venom would be better. My favorite spidey villians were always Doc Oc and Venom. They're just the coolest. So now that we've got Octavius done, wouldn't Venom naturally be next? ... hehehe.......
* end of spoiler *
wow. last night when i saw it i went berzerk. i was running around the hallways yelling and screeming. then when i got home i did some more yelling and screaming. My brother and i didn't stop talking about how awesome the movie was for at least an hour. then we got online and talked with friends about how awesome it was. Incredible.
EDIT:
And if I recall correctly Harry Osbourne becomes the Hobgoblin. From what I've heard this sounds like where the third movie is going. The Venom plot is going to take quite a long time to tell, may be looking at a separate "Venom" movie franchise for even just an abridged backstory, to truly do the character justice. IMO Venom and Carnage couldn't be resolved in one movie.
:edit:
And no, Harry is the green goblin. Hobby was Norman. but i think the Venom storyline.. well, there's a lot, but you could show the beginning of it with one movie i'm sure. I think the spider-man show was able to do the beginning of Venom in 2 or 3 episodes.
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The Hobgoblin came into being when Roderick Kingsley discovered an abandoned secret lair of the supervillain known as the Green Goblin The Green Goblin is a Marvel Comics supervillain who is the greatest enemy of Spider-Man. Using the Green Goblin's equipment, Kingsley adopted the identity of the Hobgoblin and set out to plague Spider-Man.
Eventually, he framed Peter Parker's friend and co-worker Ned Leeds as being the man behind the Hobgoblin's mask, and retired; Leeds was killed while wearing the Hobgoblin's costume, and was believed for several years to have actually been the Hobgoblin.
Later, another character took up the guise of the Hobgoblin, Jason Philip Macendale Jr. (a.k.a. Jack O'Lantern). Macendale was a mercenary who had been trained by the CIA and various para-military organizations. This Hobgoblin was very intent upon finding the secret formula of super human strength of the original Green Goblin. Frustrated with his lack of results in reproducing the formula, Macendale would later attempt other avenues to this end.
During a demonic incursion on New York City the Hobgoblin attempted to make a deal with demons from Limbo in exchange for the abilities of the original Green Goblin. He was tricked and transformed into a literal hobgoblin with his equipment replaced by mystical equivalents. Macendale went insane as a result of this transformation, and became convinced that he was appointed by God to kill sinners. Shortly, he was separated from the demonic presence, which took a form of its own and called itself the Demogoblin for the remainder of its short life.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
On the topic of Doc Oc -- he was completely believable. Very, very cool.
i mean they could do the black spidey suit but they couldnt do the whole venom character with like all the drooling of the goo and stuff. how he can like engulf things. i just dont want a black hulk running around and ruinging the movie :X
Computer Animated Movie = Good, 1 Computer Animated Character = bad; out of place in the real world
PS: Lizard man could be in the third one but not a huge role
edit: as i said in a earlier post, Harry Osbourne becomes the Green Goblin to destroy Spiderman, the person who "murdered" his father, So Harry is avenging his fathers death and taking the role of green goblin
Best.
Sequel.
Ever.
And oh yeah: The ending r0x0red, though they jumped the gun with MJ.
*SPOILER DAMNIT*
I remember the issue in which she finally went to him- it wasn't THIS soon, I don't think.
***SPOILERS***
Yeah, I think we all got the impression of Harry becoming the Green Gobling when he walked into the secret room with all the GG stuff. And the whole spiderman-must-pay thing. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
And the mirror thing was very Hamlet-esque. Of course, its also fun to notice all the little things that foreshadow, like how Harry had a green bow-tie at the wedding scene.
Anyway, awesome movie. They're going in the right direction. And hopefully they won't mess up on the third movie.
No other words can describe this movie. It is amazing in every sense of the word.
So without further ado.
Wow.
by you guys saying its so cool makes me want to see it more and more
Oh and kirsten dunst and toby maguire work very well together, and so that really makes the film damn good.
*Spoilers*

So what exactly was up with Spidey losing his powers breifly? Was his love for MJ getting in the way so much that it was dwarfing his super human powers? Or does he just need an overwhelming need to protect some one for the powers to kick in?
I just saw this last night, and OMG it pwnd.
I'm not much of a comics reader, and don't really know of any of the villians besides Venom, so its all a suprise to me (well except the thing w/ Harry, but I kinda saw that comin).
Uber pwn.
I too hope the third movie features Venom. That would be so pwn.
I liked that aspect of it. It leant itself more to reality.
After all if you're a super hero, and your life is saving people's lives, you aren't gonna just let them die just because you don't have the tights on.
Best scene of the movie:
Elevator scene. The pacing made it hilarious. :P

I checked this site out reading up on the character bios to see what I was missing, not knowing all that much about the series and... well.. I'll probably be bashed a lot for this but most of that just seemed rather... stupid.
Like every major character had been cloned at least once, or had someone else assume the identity four freakin times, or whatnot. Or they were a clone of Peter's friend's space alien's newphew's second cousin's CPA's vetrinarian. And its a good thing amnesia isn't as common in reality as it is in the Spider-Man world, otherwise we would all
"Steal it? No, I'm not a criminal... No, you're right, the greater crime would be to not finish what I started."
--Scythe--
P.S. Did he actually die at the end or is he going to make a triumphant return as spiderman's sidekick? T3H SUSPENCE!!
Elevator scene was funny though.....XD
Have to admit that the train part was a wee bit cheesy. But I like how Doc Oc pwned them all with just the mech arms.

Cheesy? Hardley. I'd do the same damned thing if I was in that train.
"To get to Spiderman, your gonna have to go through me."
"...and me."
"...and me"
"and me"

"Okay"
THAT was the best scene of the movie.
