    Geez have you seen the specs on thier top end GFX card, that thing is beyond reason.

    What unholy card needs 640megs of GDDR3 ram, it goes upto a maxium res of 3840 x 2400 where talking very small letters here lol.

    <a href='http://www.3dlabs.com/products/product.asp?prod=293&page=6' target='_blank'>http://www.3dlabs.com/products/product.asp?prod=293&page=6</a>

    Only problem with it is the fact it eats up 2 PCI slots because its so bloody big lol.

    Now if only i could find out how much it costs lol.

    Just remember....

    That's not a card for gaming <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> It's like the Quadro series of nVidia... it's workstation based. i.e. you use it for programs like autocad or some very VERY GPU and CPU intensive 3d modeling programs (Maya, etc).

    <a href='http://www.nvidia.com/page/qfx_uhe.html' target='_blank'>http://www.nvidia.com/page/qfx_uhe.html</a>
    <a href='http://www.ati.com/products/fireglvseries/index.html' target='_blank'>http://www.ati.com/products/fireglvseries/index.html</a>

    Although, I think 3d labs is a bit ahead on that market. I can't remember the name of the other companies out there, but they put nVidia and ATI to shame with their workstation cards. But hell... if you are rich, may as well buy one to have one, right?

    (buy me one too in that case <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    Yipes!

    I bet you can beat a dozen cattle to death with it before it becomes unusable. And here I thought the Geforce 6 was good enough to beat people to death with....

    But yeah, not designed for gaming <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Does not designed for gaming mean it won't run games?

    No, it can, though it would be economically unsound to use such an overkill. This is the stuff Pixar and ILM use.

    Makes the Voodoo5 looks sleek! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    yeah,3dlabs builds cards for professional 3d workstations.. like mine <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    a octane with dual r14000 mips risc 600Mhz on a 8 gigabyte T-ram systemboard. ive used a old wildcat in the pci cage, but then i bought a Vpro 12 board very cheap on ebay <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    this board (yeah, board, not card) is fully integrated into the architecture of the octane and doesnt need slow pci slots <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    but it also have no svga connector like regular monitors.. its the infamous 13w3 connector sun workstations using :-o

    Indeed it is... now I want one.
  • RaVeRaVe Join Date: 2003-06-20 Member: 17538Members
    Well, looks like I might get one in the far future, because I want a career involving IT. Unfortunately, our school forced us to do multimedia.

    And I guess I will use the card to do 3D modelling and beating my inmate with it then.

    BTW, sorry for the off-topicness, but....WHERE DO YOU GET ALL THOSE GHOST IN THE SHELL PICTURES SHEENA?!
