Stupid Graphics Card...

<div class="IPBDescription">Fans are driving me nuts</div> Just recently I cleaned off my Leadtek Ti4400- it has dual cooling fans and it had been getting a progressivly worse grinding noise, so i cleaned them.

I put the card bad in.. and now it's making a high-pitched whistle.

Anyone know any remedies to get it to stop? I assume that oil would be a bad thing to use...

<a href='http://www.explosivelabs.com/reviews/leadtek_ti4400/front.shtml' target='_blank'>this</a> is what the card looks like.

What the heck, that whole friggin card is a heatsync.

Cleaning instructions for fans and heatsinks
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->{Fan & Heatsinks} Once again take a can of compressed air and spray it on the fans. This will clean the fans without damaging any circuit or wires connected to these components. You can remove the heatsink and wipe of the dust from the copper base and fins.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Sorry, couldn't find anything on lubricants.

Ok- i ended up unscrewing both the fans and taking out the little mesh that is a dust protector and it went away.

Do you think that'll damage it too much? Dust could still get in around the edges, so it wasn't doing too much good.

Meh, with that much heatsync your fans could probably stop all together to no ill effect.

If you clean them semi regularly they should be fine... Should be... I don't know how sensitive the motors are to dust.

Yeah, with my new vid card (the Leadtek5900) I realized how spoiled I was... I was used to being able to open up the case adn feel the one side of the card and it was still cool, the back was slightly warm. This was after ut2k4 for like 3 hours.

Now, if i open up my case with the new card, I can feel the heat bleeding off the back of the card since there is no heat spreader and the front of the card is blowing very warm air.
