<div class="IPBDescription">Possible fix for weird corruption, too?</div> The latest version of the <a href='http://www.omegadrivers.net' target='_blank'>Omega drivers</a> for ATI cards was released on the 17th of June, so I'm a little late. But better late than never. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> This version contains a special OpenGL driver, apparently, that fixes the Half-Life FPS drop with some ATI cards. (I bet it's just the old driver.) It's an option on installation.
Here is something that stood out to me, though:

game will run FASTER and look better than using 16bit color.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Remember all those people who were having problems with lighting and stuff looking weird? Try adding "-32bpp" to your Half-Life Launch Options, see if that fixes it.

These are my "optimized" drivers for the ATI Radeon family of video cards.
What's New? (2k/XP 2.5.51)
* Based on the official Catalyst 4.6 drivers.
* Updated the Omega version of RadLinker (1010), now Radlinker includes a new skin
option and ads support x800 overclocking.
* Added some tweaks for OLG. Enabled OGL Triple Buffer by default.
* Added support for MANY NEW Radeon cards, FireGL cards and Mobility chipsets.
ANY card should be supported now and the drivers will always install.
* Now the drivers should work a LOT better on laptops.
* Fixed FireGL card support, now it has full CP support and fully working OGL.
* Changed the installer graphics.
* Added a new option in the installer to select a faster OLG driver instead of
just using the latest one, this driver runs Counter Strike like butter. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Important note: The special OGL driver will NOT work on x800 cards.
Many thanks to NGO for their input, this was their idea. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
* The package keeps growing in size, the drivers will keep being distributed in
compressed CAB format to save some bandwidth, it must be decompressed using one
of these tools (latest version): WinAce, WinRAR or WinZip. Then run the extracted
file to start installation of the drivers.
* Opened a new site!

Important Notes:
1. If you are using an Omega soft-mod and you are experiencing crashes, black
screens, artifacts or the "check board effect" during game play, run the new
included Driver Swapper utility and select the Normal driver, the reason is
that your card is not accepting the soft-mod due to broken/incompatible
hardware.
2. Using Special OGL file: Since this OGL file has some small bugs, if you got
video corruption in Counter-Strike, all you need to do is to add "-32bpp" to
the game's command line or set it up in Launch Options (CS 1.6 + CS:CZ). The
game will run FASTER and look better than using 16bit color.
**************
REMINDERS:
1- If you have the normal ATI drivers installed, uninstall the ATI Control Panel
BEFORE upgrading to these drivers, the Omega Drivers already have the CP
integrated and another CP will cause conflicts or other problems.
2- There is no need to uninstall ANY previous drivers (ATI or OMEGA) when
installing these, the new ones will overwrite any previous settings, but if
you still want to uninstall them completely, is ok.
3- In Windows 2k/XP, ALWAYS disable DDC in the ATI "Displays/Monitor" CP after
installing drivers to be able to use ALL the refresh rates and resolutions
your monitor supports, also this is the best way to avoid the 60Hz RR bug.
4- The WDM drivers for VIVO and AIW cards are not included, but they can be
downloaded separately from a link in my drivers page.
5- The Radeon cards do support FastWrites and they will work with it on
(on some machines), but it is not recommended, there is NO SPEED gain
when using FW, and this option will affect your PC's stability a LOT,
most game crashes and problems are because FW is enabled.
6- Install the included Multires utility to have access to ALL the available
resolutions in the Omega Drivers, standard Windows doesn't show all of them.
7- Always uninstall the previous version of RadLinker before installing the new
one included in the latest Omega Drivers.
8- After installing the new drivers and rebooting, if your desktop is SLOW and
games won't run, is because AGP acceleration has been disabled by Windows, in
order to fix this you MUST re-install the latest AGP chipset drivers for your
Mother Board (this also includes laptops). After rebooting check the Advanced
SmartGart Options in the Omega Start Menu and see if at least AGP/PCI read are
both ENABLED, if all of them are enabled, the better, but some MBs doesn't
support AGP/PCI write functions.
I don't recommend the use of ANY external tweakers with my drivers (specially
Rage3D Tweaker), as they override my special settings and will make my work
useless. The only time I recommend a tweaker is when you have a specific
problem with a specific tweak and need to change it in order to make the drivers
work correctly. Also if you use a tweaker for overclocking, FSAA, Gamma or
Aniso settings, is just fine, but you'll be better off using the integrated ATI
CP for that (which is ok by me if you change any setting in it).
If you have any problems with this drivers please go to my webpage and look in
the ATI help section for answers. If still have problems look for the drivers
thread in www.driverheaven.net forums and let me know what is going on.
If you happen to find a new tweak or fix for a specific game or many games
and it proves that it works then drop me an E-Mail (don't post it in the
forums), I'll make sure credit will be granted to that person in this INFO file.
IMPORTANT: Don't bother ATI about these drivers as they are unsupported by them!
May GOD bless everybody!

Not really, it just enables 32-bit colour. Half-Life uses 16-bit colour by default. On older computers, you might see a performance drop. On newer ones, it doesn't have a big impact.
Anyone got the cvar to set it to 32bit via a .cfg?
No no. What they are is basically... The guy behind the Omega drivers tweaks all the settings in the Catalyst drivers. (Well, the ones that need to be tweaked.) He tweaks them for the best possible image quality with the best possible performance without a loss of stability, then he bundles some extra tools with it as well as optional soft-mod drivers for two video cards and a special OpenGL driver. All he does is tweak what is available from ATI.
69FPS at all times in TS baby! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->!

Neat. Congratulations. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
ummm... not sure what to do - add "-32bpp" to my config.cfg file?
Sorry if that's a stupid question.
I just have to learn to leave well enough alone.
I have a 9800 Pro
[edit] - I removed the ATI control panel before installing the omega drivers [/edit]
Installed the drivers (and the extra programs that came with them)
Selected the Special OpenGL
Left everything else as the default
added -32pp to the half life start up
Rebooted (twice)
Now when I start NS - behind the loading screen turns red when it's about 50% done and then flashes right before letting me enter the game.
When in the game - looking or moving around - the top 1/2 of my screen has these horizontal lines of "noise" I guess you'd call it? I don't know... I had this problem when I first installed the card and I tweaked the settings of it until I got it to work - but I forgot what I did... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
!!... help ...!!
Buhaha! What do you say to that, fellow user with a Steam issue!
Same here, flickers like nothing else.. To bad it actually did raise FPS though... Wish they could make it Flicker-Free <!--emo&::tsa::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tsa.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tsa.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Rage3D Tweak isn't able to get it back to 85hz anymore <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Not initially - but I just uninstalled the Omega drivers - ran driver cleaner and reinstalled (following their instructions).
No Good - same problem. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I think I'm gonna deal with it for another day or so (to see if anyone comes up with a solution...) then I'm gonna go back to the "normal" ati drivers.... if (when) I do that, I should remove the "-32 bpp" thingie from the half life startup options?
