don't get your hopes up...
Nobody around here has mentioned it yet, but I thought I'd kill the rumors before they start. A pre-emptive strike if you will...
As some of you may have heard, there is some buzz going around the interweb saying DOOM 3 is coming out August 3rd. Gamestop has even gone so far as to declare the date as "official" and "confirmed".
This date is a complete rumor, and is neither official nor confirmed.
For those that aren't aware, let me let you in on id's policy of release dates:
id Software never gives a specific date until after a game goes gold. And id announces when their games go gold the moment they go gold (even if its in the middle of the night). So no gold announcement = no official date announcement, and no official date announcement = the Aug 3rd date is just a rumor.
Sorry to dash your hopes, but I just thought you guys should be aware. Don't get me wrong, if id comes out tommorrow and is all "btw, doom3 is gold and its coming out aug 3" then I'll be all "w00t!" and ":D", but until that happens, any date you hear whatsoever is complete fubar.

My god so it's true! There never was a Doom 3 to begin with! They just photoshopped a bunch of CG pictures. It was all lies!
Oh well, at least there is alwats Duke Nukem Forever and Halflife 2. At least those are certainties in life...
It's Team Fortress 2 that's the true holder of the "when the hell is this game coming out, come on it's been years and years now" title. Twas originally going to be a mod for Quake 2. Another important point - one of the reasons why TF2's taken so long is that they kept changing their minds about the engine, including re-writing it from scratch at least once. Now, guess which engine they've finally settled on (we think)?
That's right. HL2.
What I mean is, TF2 was anticipated before Half-Life even came out. Now, the limiting factor in its development has become HL2's development. So, in a way, it's TF2's engine that's taking so long to come out .
Oh, and game concepts invented by TF2 have, in the meantime, been borrowed by other games in development, which have implemented them, had their day in the sun, and then faded away (RtCW's medics). Meanwhile the original game still isn't out...
Anyway, since when have id ever been known for vapourware?
You can :D in real life?

I can testify that it is not, being that I got to play it at Quakecon last year when id was showing off the multiplayer to us lucky attendees.
Sadly, DOOM3 mp was rather "meh" but holy cow it was sexy. Everything you've seen the engine do in SP it does in MP just as well. 60fps all the time too, and considering it was running on now not-so-hot geforce 5's that's pretty good.

The models look like plastic. When I saw the monsters I thought I was looking at action figures.
Other than that, when (and if) this game comes out, I must have it.
