Whelp I caved... I bought PSO episode III, but as it happens I picked up something else unexpected too.
I was just out buying father's day stuff when i swung by game and my reserve finally cracked. I picked up ep III and asked the same thing I always ask out of habit now when I go to game...
"got any Gamecube Broadband adaptors?" As per usual the guy behind the counter smiles and goes off to check with me following thinking "he's going to hand me a modem" and sure enough he wields a modem box triumphantly only to my dissapointment and exceptations. I calmly inform him that "nuh-uh that's a modem", he looks puzzled for a second... this is where I twigged something wasn't normal. He looked at the box then back at the shelf where he'd taken it from before say
"ah!" and picking up an identical box. You'd think it was a modem, same package, picture everything except for the juicy writing saying "gamecube broadband adaptor".
Needless to say I'm still somewhat in shock but I bought it on the spot XD
The staff said they'd only just got it in yesterday and it was the only one in the store o.O
Anyways, long story short I'm not logging online till I buy a keyboard and a length of cable so I don't need to unplug my PC every time. But in the meantime EP III... well... sorry flint but I'm not sure what to make of it. The presentation is just WOW! It's beautiful and crammed with gorgeous artwork that makes the previous two episodes look like amateur work, but the game itself is a bit sloooooooooooow =/
I keep just wanting to say "heck to this", jump over the stupid squares and cave the badguys skull in with a big sword. I can tell there's a good game system under there but they seem to insist on drawing out each action waaay more than necessary with fancy computer voices talking and other unnecessary delays that got on my nerves. I'll play it some more and see how it goes but I keep finding myself wondering why they didn't just develop on a perfectly good start to a combat system that they had in epI&II (as well as why they hadn't upped the texture quality on the models nor added new customisation stuff XD ). It was neat knowing that whatever class you chose had no bearing on anything except your costume choices though, in a weird sort of relaxed kind of way.
Oh and I'll remember to put in 60hz next time I play too, I forgot that 50Hz was like running in treacle <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<b>edit:</b> just so you know 'game' is pretty much the UK version of Electronics Boutique... infact Game was originally a seperate company until they became successful enough to buy over EB. The company kept the original game name in the UK converting all the EB stores to 'Game's. Not sure what's happening outside of our lil isle concerning that though =o

Phantasy Star Online.
Now I'm the only one left alone playing Episode 1 <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Ah well, at least I can have some fun with some of the people I play with online <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
What other GC games can go online? I thought it was just PSO?
~pokes Rave~
How're you playing PSO 1 on PC? I thought they killed the servers... unleeeeess... you're not on those dodgy fan servers are you? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I've actually got the PC version too but the only servers I could find nowadays were ones run by a bunch of cheaters =/
Byebye cheaters, hello legits. Never met a cheater in there. Ever. It's like a dream come true <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Of course...it wouldn't hurt to grab 99999999 Meseta or a Double Cannon from them cheaters, right? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Actually, I don't need to. I have one h4xx0red character (appropiately name h4xx0r) and my Legit character, Sou, with whom I spent an eternity trying to defeat Dark Falz, and did.
Now all I have to do is go through Hard mode, Very Hard mode, and Ultimate mode <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Ah well....LONG LIVE TEH PALLASCH +11! (Yes I'm that much of a sucker when it comes to hunting down Monogrinders in the item shop)
I've never cheated/hacked in PSO and I'm not particularly fond of the fan servers which seem to allow it. If it's legit as you say though and you know how I could join in then feel free to PM me about it ^^
I got kinda annoyed at EpI&II when they rendered my FOnewearl unable to use the soul eater and capped my accuracy so I couldn't melee anything above v.hard =/
I'd probably be best playing a HUnewearl but I prefer the FOnewearl faces and outfits, plus the shock value of a FOnewearl who never died and kicked rear in melee with the best of them was worth the anguish <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I don't know, I always had a thing for swords and spears....could be the main reason I enjoy playing HUmars, my kind of style <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
But it stinks as to how they nerfed every class in EpI&II. I don't think even the auto-regen would help at all :/
Lucky me I'm still stuck on PSOPC, where HUmars CAN use Shifta and Deband and FOnewearls can still use Soul Eaters....I never bothered to get that ^_^;
Best record set I heard was a HUmar friend of mine who did DF at 103. I was kinda impressed but not as much as people were with my FOnewearl record. Some people didn't even believe me =o

As raz0r said, Doubledash has LAN capability - up to 4 Cubes and 16 players (two per cart, of course!).
As far as I know, PSO is the only online GC game.
Any other games that can lan it up or is MarioKart the sad exception? =/
I still need to play ep III again since I gave it one shot. Not a good sign but oh well lol.
If you're not willing to give it a few nights worth of play then it's your own loss. Name a time and a place and I'll teach you to love Episode 3.
My character is Redwarf, shout if you meet him.
Edit - wait, you're not online? You're judging a PSO game by playing its offline mode? Hello?
Im now lvl 24 and get continuesly owned no matter what. ACK!

<span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'>HAHAHAHAHHAHA</span>
God only knows what you're doing wrong. Stuck at the caves with a level 24 char? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
De Rol is quite tough for a low level force / ranger, but unless rangers are far weaker than I remember, it shouldn't be too taxing. Take lots of mono/dimates and a rifle with a decent A/Beast percentage. Keep plugging away at the head armour and you're good. Not sure if they removed it from the Gamecube version, but if you stand in the exact middle at the back of the raft, his purple laser will pass through you every time.
Hee hee. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Be sure to dodge his attacks from time to time, and take potshots at him when he's swimming.
When he get's his teeth sunken into your raft, hit him with 2 Normal-Normal-Normal combos (3 normal atacks), then beginning running around like an idiot. When he does land a tentacle and miss, use a Normal-Strong-Strong combo, and run around, repeat till he gets off the raft.
Repeat. Be sure to follow Flint's advice on avoiding the laser, it helps a lot. But like him, I don't know if they fixed it.
BTW, you will eventually get hit, but you expect that. Bring lots of Monomates or Dimates, and if possible, bring a Mag that reacts to a boss with invulnerability, or a high level mag that will revive you if you die.
De Rol Le is my favourite boss in the whole game. The ultimate version with the machine-gun mouth laser is totally insane XD
There's 2 points when he's really open, the obvious one is when he bites the raft, just get the timing right so you're on the move when he whips a tentacle out at you and it should miss every time.
The second time he's open, but only to ranged weapons, is when he's at either end of the raft, you can shoot him in the face when he's doing the funny lazer thing and you can shoot him in the rear when he's swimming about in front, just hard to get a lockon.
lol at the online thingy flint =3
I'm judging the game mechanics rather than the game at the moment. PSO blew me away the first time I laid my hands on it. It was fresh, new and above all; simple.
I feel like I need a college degree to build my deck for this new one and I'm hesitant to switch characters because I honestly don't know the measure of cards versus one another properly. The numbers are nice and all but they mean sweet nothing to me at the moment (especially that weird TP one). Don't have a scooby how to work out if a card's equip cost is worth the stats either, it's all greek to me =s
I've won the first two fights so far though. I still get the horrible urge to run over and smack the opponent in the face with whatever weapon I'm holding though <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
If this had been a new game then I might've been a little more patient with it but as it's going under the PSO name it's jarring my patience with going from the beloved real-time action-fest to a turn-based card and board game =/
It kinda reminds me of my fave gameboy game series: megaman battle network! but minus the action, dodging and hectic real-time stuff. Oh and the easier to understand chip system which seems a lot friendlier than this PSO card system ^^;
TP damage = character card's TP + TP of action card (technique like foie etc) + item you're latching the action card to (wand, cane etc or creature). Simple!
Glustar the Force has 3 TP, he uses his Sigh of a God (4 TP) with foie (2 TP). 9 damage!
All cards are worth their costs. A Hildebear is equal to four Rappies like a Mushashi is equal to three sabers, it just depends how you want to play.
But seriously, get online or you'll not have the motivation to play past the end of the offline missions.
But then again....I bet they're all sleeping by now =__=
I still haven't beaten Ultimate Falz yet. Do you get a special ending for beating ultimate? I'll probably find out when I inevitably do it in Blue Burst anyways.
As for the mouth laser change... how <b>couldn't</b> you notice it? o.O
It went from one easily avoided, long charge blast to a rapid-fire laser of death!!! I gave up trying to work out how to dodge it and just ended up going on a healing frenzy. I had to time it right because the blasts were so fast it was almost going at the same rate as I could heal from hammering heck out of my resta button XD
If you'd been watching my HP bar during one of these heal spams you'd probably have an epilepitc fit from all the flashing from near empty to full it does <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Also the ultimate vol opt cage ball requires slightly tighter circles to dodge. Caught me off guard the first few times until I realised it was turning quicker lol.
As for dark falz... yeah... I got to her at 103 but had to wait until level 105 before I could survive the rain of dooooooom. And that was with 2 or 3 Perfect/Resists in my armour slots o.O
LOL Maybe I should play through Ultimate mode with only a Handgun and Saber with my hacked character....it's no fun when you can kill De Rol Lie with a Double Cannon +15 when he starts to stick himself on the raft....
Ah well, I guess it's time to go back to hard Caves with my character then. Need to level up my mag and me till I can use that Kaladbolg I picked up at Ruins.
I know, I was real lucky to get it. I was pretty underleveled too, at level 16. It's because these level 30 guys invited me. Needless to say, they were a great help to me.
As for Ultimate mode, well, just different cutscenes, and no other stuff. Generally not useful to finish it unless you want to see what happened to Rico.
EDIT : Does De Rol Lie have Foie resistance in Ultimate mode? If not, the Rafoie is good to use in that case. Gogo mini-nuclear boom!
Or Razonde if he doesn't have resistance against it either.
Also: not that it matters to Rangers, but swords and scythes can hit Del Ro Le when it's swimming alongside the raft.
Worst resistance problem I've faced is when I got EP II and got to Olga Falz. He keeps changing resistances throughout the fight o.O
Never even managed to beat him on normal because I managed to use every ounce of TP and all 3 types of fluid without killing him... eep!
I mean the elevator bit is cool but the rest is just plain evil lol.
So, then.
I suppose it would be easier just to ignore the squares and crack them over their heads. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
