Are "unneded" Bones Forgotten When Compiling?

<div class="IPBDescription">Without vertexes assgined to them?</div> OK I need to know this for my MG42:
Let's say I add ~7 bones to the player ref smd without vertexes assigned to them. Those bones are only needed for the p model, which will be animated (via player anims, ot p.mdl anims). But, do I need to have vertexes assigned to the bones on the player ref model or not? Because I can't see "empty" bones in the model viewer.... Help me please <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    If u dont assign the bones, they will still exist. If u assign them in the ref and animate the bones later they will move. I'm pretty sure that they still exist once u compile even if they aren't assigned...you could always find out tho by taking the lmg and unassigning the bone for the magazine and compiling to see what happens.

    True.
    But I found out another way (using another $body with invisible faces assigned to the bones I need), which is minimum risk to me. And I also checked something: If I decompile the model which was compiled without these faces (with "empty" bones) those bones disappear if they don't have a child-bone where something is assigned to.

    Their forgotten, they dont show up if you use attachments and whatnot. Althought, you prob could go look in the .smd with a text editor since i hear all they are is just a bunch of xyz positioning with bone names :/

    They are forgotten, definately, but you can assign 2-D faces to them which won't show up ingame but keep the bones "alive" <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
