"lifeforms Are Under Attack"

STOP SAYING IT, we know!
just thought id suggest the removal of the "lifeforms are under attack" in combat. it's pretty damned obvious skulks are gonna be shot at. this dosnt mean removal of the "hive is under attack" and "Our hive is dieing" emotes.

kinda get's annoying.

also, may as well use this thread to suggest one other thing i think would be really cool. would it be possible in ns for the model's to take dmg visably? ex: when a heavy armor get's bitten, the model's armor slightly changes to show the dmg, such as holes, pot marks, or slash's in the armor?

or possibility for skulks, taking lmg fire in their back would leave holes.

or when the skulk is xenoing, a huge damn crack appear's down the middle of his body exposing greengoo, then boom.

would add to the atmosphere of ns.

would be really cool if they could do this type of thing with buildings, too. it wouldent have to be accurate dmg showing, like if you shoot an onos in the side, the exact site of the would wouldent have to show, just a general would on it's body that would look totally cool.

ohh, and just incase you forgot, removed the hive is under attack emote in combat!

Actually the hive mind warnings could do with some changes. Could some sort of system of importance be implemented? (for classic, I mean) Say 'lifeform under attack' is playing and then a structure is attacked. Could that cancel the other voice and play the new one instead, or shortly afterwards? The delay or total lack of warnings playing sometimes causes important things like OCs guarding a siege position to go unnoticed because some skulk is already attacking MS, causing the lifeform under attack warning to be played.

I'd just like for hivesight to actually be useful enough (like it once was) to tell me WHAT is under attack. Right now it's limited to an area about the size of my hearing range and is often completely USELESS for finding out which res tower is under attack.

    That's another good idea!

Set a level of importance for each message, and interrupt one of lesser importance if need be.

    1. Our Hive is Dying
    2. Hive is under attack.
    3. Resource tower is under attack.
    4. Structure is under attack.
    5. Lifeform is under attack.
    6. We need builders

Personally, I'd also like to see messages for:
"An intruder is at the hive" when aliens are getting spawncamped.
"Warning! Kharaa activity at receiving" for when marines are getting the same.
"Finish them!" when the CC chair is in the red, and a similar type of message for marines when the hive is weak.

    Bad suggestions.

But true on the less repetition, I can imagine some people getting annoyed ("your base is under attack" in WC3 rings a bell).

Yea, I'd really like to be able to see which node is under attack anywhere on the map. I often had to boogie to the center for the red dot to appear, and by the time I get to the node in my slow Gorgey butt it's already Marine'd and elec'd, and oh dear, LMG clip in the rear! (I want gorgerskates.)

You can try going into your NS folder and editing the volumes of the Hivemind sayings with Recorder (right-click, select "Record")

Personally, I'd like to see "The enemy is approaching!" get some use. If a Marine can look at the Hive and has sufficient view for it to appear on his team's minimap, then the Hive should be able to see him as well. No more surprise shottyrushes through the phase gate.

I couldn't agree more. This would also very much help in those small games where there are aliens getting up their second res tower and suddenly the 6 sieges marines have put next to your hive go off. In a small game the aliens cannot spare anyone to play "basebitch". The same situation is not reversible because the comm will let everyone know the moment anything in MS is attacked.

In one extreme of this situation, I was comm and I actually sent a JP marine to build a siege base directly on top of the hive. Because he didn't bother with the OC's and DC's defending the hive, he was able to set up some sieges without the aliens knowing he was there.

Oh, and I also agree about the levels of importance being necessary.

1.0x hive sight totally rocked, I loved it, it wasn't equivilant to MT, but it was damn usefull to know exactly where every one was, and if a fellow alien was attacking marines, and being under attack, him seeing the aliens and "reporting" it to other aliens, making them temp parasited in your LoS.. just ruled.. I miss it.

Pfft. I love the idea. Esp. the Marine spawn camp one.

    Why are they bad?

I like the idea. I've always wanted that, a way of knowing if my team was attacking the enemy objective. IE, if I'm a marine and someone's attacking a hive, or I'm an alien and someone's attacking the CC. A simple sound effect would suffice.

Personally id like a change in "lifeforms u nder attack" for all aliens besides a gorge.

for a gorge it should say

    "A builder is under attack!"

or "Our Gorge is under attack!"

and also that suggestion for "Enemy approaching" when the hive sees a marine in good view would be EXTREMLY helpful. a "Resource tower is dying" so we know to Guard it or get our arses there quickly.

and since most posts are suggesions why isnt it in S&I?

Exactly what i had in mind. That "Gorge is under attack" would prevent (in a bit organised game) the slaughter of the gorges.

    TBH

In most cases by the time the

"Your gorge is under attack" started playing

    YOUR gorge would be dead!
  • korsairkorsair Join Date: 2004-04-21 Member: 28055Members
true, but if your gorge had any sense, he would start running as soon as he heard marines getting close enough which buys him time. If he doesn't its better than just the standard "life form is under attack".

    good idea that...or...

replace them with clips from porno movies!

    think about it

I'll admit that those sounds do need work. Often in many games it will say "Lifeform is under attack", and we won't care at all. Then, our hive is dead. We are left complaining "I didn't hear 'Our hive is dying'" sound. This is a problem.

The lifeform under attack in co should be removed completely however, since in CO obviously lifeforms are going to be under attack...
