Pagans Or Hammerites?

I'm to the point where I can do various stuff in Thief: Dark Shadows that will allow me to improve my relations with the Hammerites and Pagans.

Now, I'm not sure if I can get them both neutral to me, but if I steal from one or the other, it'll lower my rating, and I gots to do ma stealin'!

Anyway, which should I ally myself with?

I like the Hammerites, and knowing they'd help me fend off Hammer Haunts would be nice (God I hate zombies...), but to be honest I trust the Pagans more, and they don't have literature lying about regarding fathers cutting off their son's hand because he can't figure out how to use a hammer...

Pagans suck. I'll take technology over magic any day.

You can actually do both. There are, by far, enough faction gaining points to ally with both (just shoot elemental arrows into the weird spikes coming out of the ground by the Pagan place in the docks - every day/kill any zombies you see). I didn't even bother with the dust mites or cornerstones (seeing as I only saw the one cornerstone in Stonemarket proper).

I ended with about 90% faction for the Hammerites and 100% for the Pagans.

...and as long as you're not spotted while stealing or KOing faction members, your faction standing stays pretty solid anyway. Also of note: The Clocktower mission does not impact your Hammerite faction...go as nuts as you wish in there.

Outside of actual game stat balancing: Hammerites all the way. I could tell I'd dislike the Pagans once I entered that 'Go to the well and visit the Pagan tunnels' crap. The Chapel level owns the Pagan tunnels level.

I love getting two completely opposing factions to love me. Usually this occurred in Freelancer however. Anyway, props to you for accomplishing this in Theif.

Anyway, how are you guys enjoying the game now? I prefer to find out here, instead of that Theif thread because I feared that thread might be a shameful plug.

I actually stated in the other thread that the game is incredibly fun - but definately lacks replay value. You're better off renting it and then seeing if you want to buy it (if you have an Xbox)...I think there's a PC demo, but I'm not sure.

The story and game is fun the first time...I played one level over again - you kindof know where everything is...so it's kindof pfft - all you can really do is turn the difficulty up.

Although, I set my Xbox back to a german dashboard...and it's kinda interesting to play it with all the text in a semi-known language.

Not really worth buying until the price lowers - in my opinion anyway. Should be cheaper on PC pretty quick, and probably will be an Xbox hit sooner or later. You just need to remember then when they do come out cheaper.
