The Ones Who've Forgotten Ns Is A Game

The people that take NS too seriously
Although it isn't that much of a big matter, I for one am getting sick of people acting like the world is over when their NS game is going wrong. I'm pretty sure everyone's been called a Noob or a hax sometime in their gaming career. But I swear, something pisses me off about someone that calls you horrible even though your score is decent. Sometimes, people get in the way because of the webs they don't see. A fade that blinks and kills you without you firing off a single shot doesn't warrant you being a noob, crap things happen to even the best veterans. Nothing pisses me off more then some squeky voiced teen yapping over the mic because someone did something different or wrong. Some people like to try something unconventional even though it may or may not work. The skulk that just got in your way may have been waiting to go invisible, for example.

Granted, there are a lot of noobs out there, and you can't expect them to play like pros. There are also a lot of NS players who are very casual and don't spend six hours on a server, because they have other things to worry about (girlfriends). These people might suck at NS, but they probably own you in other sports or activities (sex).

I should also note that these happen on pubbie servers. If it was a clan server, I can understand why everyone would yell till their veins popped out. I just wish people would remember that NS is just a game and that yelling over the mic that everyone sucks won't save you from 3 hives and 6 Onos, just sit back, and tell yourself there will be another round.

Ok, I agree people take this game too seriously SOMETIMES. But I for one get angry when people screw the game up for people. Because they CAN and WILL do it. Maybe not on purpose, and maybe they are newbies to NS. But that doesn't give you a license to try and NOT learn how to play. People will try to tell them what to do over voice comm, or text chat, but do they listen? Nope. They continue to run around being useless.

It's not even not knowing what to do. Not dropping RTs, or dropping the chamber nobody else agreed on. It's not even noob players. It's people who actually KNOW how to play. For example, a hive is under attack. Some of you are trying to kill the marines, and yelling over voice/text to get to hive "x" to kill them. What is the rest of the team doing? Nothing. Nowhere to be found. Then the hive dies, and they ask WTH? All the people who tried to stop it start getting angry(granted they shouldn't get so angry, but it's not as if it isn't wellfounded), and all the fools who didn't help are like "Lighten up it's just a game!".

Last time I checked, people play games to have fun yes, but they don't just play for no reason. Running around not helping your team, and rarely getting kills is called playing for no reason. At least if you are TRYING to help, or TRYING to learn how to play, you are still being much more helpful than random pubber #12 whos throwing himself on an electric RT while the hive goes down. I mean, I could really care if I win or lose, as long as I have a good time. But I'm going to try to the best of my ability to work with my team to win. If you aren't trying to win, you are playing for no reason, and must ask yourself, why are you playing.

Most people do take this too seriously when they need to be told that this is a game, and only that. I can understand wanting to win, but when you insult someone's skill, even though no one was comparing you two, you've crossed the line of fun and harsh.

What I really dislike are people who take alien control over-assertively. They tell you how to do something, even though it isn't a PUG, or people who will just flame you for handling a situation in a creative way. That is how you had spark to the game, and most people forget about enjoying it, and think more about winning it. You need a balance.

I only get **** off after hours and hours of idiotic behavior. Such as blocking hive entrances/exits with chambers and dropping OCs on Oni.
Or purposely doing what the comm is asking you NOT to do.

I don't get angry on people's skills. Everyone was new once, everyone has a bad hair day once in a while, and sometimes the other being better doesn't mean you're bad. It's the way you act that is annoying, not the way you play.

edit: wth does sex have to do with gaming abilities?

Sorry if I've insulted someone with the girlfriend and sex references. It's just a stereotype that people that spend that much time with video games are geeks, I could've easily put other things like sports, or even CS or some other game. Swift Idiot, what do you mean play like it matters? It's recreation, that's what I mean but when you get to the point where you are stressing because you feel everyone on your team is a noob because you lost, then there's something wrong there. And I never called you a nerd, I assume you thought that when I made those references. I like the game, but I don't like it when someone thinks you plain suck because he sees you have no kills on the score board yet. I do my part right to the bitter end, yet someone gets mad at me telling me I shouldn't stop pushing foward when he sees me turn around and run backwards, yet our CC is at 25% health and someone should REALLY go back and take out the skulks at it.

I think I really hit a nerve on yet, Swift, but to clear up what you think of me, I've been into PC gaming since I was in grade 7. You were right about me being in the 17-25 category. I assume you think I'm a troll because of my post count. As someone told me, post count is just like **** size, it means nothing in the end.

Back on topic, I'm I understand the anger when someone does something incredibly dumb like drop sensory first when the majority of the crowd likes DCs first. But getting reamed out because you supposedly weren't doing you part is kinda dumb on my part. Crap happens in NS, take a breather. Yes, I get po'ed sometimes at the game but I don't vent it by typing a screen long chat line.

I dont see the point of someone whos a IRLpr0 to acctually register on the natural-selection forums to post a stupid post like this, just to aggravate the rest of the ppl here... Anyways, i play games tho i still get "laid" as much as the next guy .(ive acctually just been dropped off at home after 8 hours at 2 parties, so.. dunno what u mean by that reference)

Why did you even make a topic of this if u dont care about ns in general?

i wish i was good enough at natural selection to be like you!

For me it's pretty simple. I'm still not the best player (getting better though) and screw up on a regular basis.

I'm willing to take a couple of sarcastic remarks about my playing, hell, I'll make them myself. Sometimes though, you get the folks who go on long tirades or who just can't seem to drop it. When that happens, whether it's against me or somebody else, I just drop the server and go somewhere else. It's not like there's not plenty of other choices, and quite frankly, I have better things to do than listen to the temper tantrum of some kid.. and it seems like it's always the kids who fly into that.

I only wish that everybody else would do that as well.. if some guy wants to spend his time cursing out the rest of his team for not meeting his standards of play, I figure he oughta be left to play with himself. That way he's bound to be satisfied right? Everybody wins.

No, I didn't post this to **** anyone off. I lerk these boards (no pun intended) but I don't really post. I just read them to check strategy and other tricks about the game. I posted this to see if anyone could relate to me about what happens in the game. I like NS, and in my opinion, this is a negative asspect of the game. Like I said before, sorry if I got you mad with the comments in the first post. What kwil said in my second paragraph is what I feel sometimes when I play NS.

You know who I hate? **** that try to get you banned from dropping sensory when they are the only one on your entire team that doesn't want it.

More on topic, I can saw I rarely ever see a nub harassed. They are often helped.

Tell me a game that doesn't have people who take it too seriously - (it doesn't exist)

Tell me a sport that doesn't have people who take it too seriously - (it doesn't exist)

Tell me a job that doesn't have people who take it too seriously - (it doesn't exist)

Tell me a any thing that doesn't have some one who takes it too seriously - (I doubt it exists)

That is life. There are 3 approaches to some thing :

1 - Have a go - don't care about other people or what they think, you just try it for yourself, and if you don't like it, move onto some thing else
2- Try a bit - play the game/sport/job/activity, become decent, and accept being average at it and not all that bothered.
3- Compete - some people approach every thing with an aggressive nature wanting to be THE best. They won't stop playing/competing/learning until they know it all, until they can beat every one

Sadly, it's type 3 that cause the most problems with complaints and being complained at, it's group 2 (like yourself) that just try to chill out, and it's group 1 that annoy every one as they have no consideration for any one else

Yes this is a simplified model, and there are far more 'approaches' to some thing that what I outlined, but this is one of many ways of looking at it

Human nature - particularly in Males, leads towards aggressive competetion between people...

I understand why it annoys you - and yes I admit some times I think the same thing - especially when I come on IRC and find things like a Petition for a new UK NS team "the current team is underperforming. The undersigned want to create a new team" ... 50% of the signatures are flaming the petition maker, and the other 50% are fairly poor players who are jealous that they aren't in the UK team...

people should stop getting angry and jealous at somes abilities, and start learning from them and respecting them

i really think if your gonna do something and take it unnessesarily serious, you should stop it. It's pointless and your just ruining someone's good time.

    That means YOU tat.01

It's the people who play in CAL competitively that you'd hear complaining about a bug that has been in a game and has not been fixed over several patchs. It's the semi-concious people in pubs that whine about aspects of the game that they can't adapt to (omg shotgun suckzorz, onos is weak, i have bad aim).

Rarely you'll ever see anyone who competitively plays NS complain about someone gamewise, save marine vs alien balancing.

    firewater say it best:
    newbs whine
    veterans adapt.
